A true depiction of youth left on their own and the choices they must make.

Runnin At Midnite was a thought provoking, realistic film of what our youth must face today on the streets they live in. The movie takes you through many emotions and you feel for each character in the movie. Pablo Toledo should be applauded for this first time effort. It was a well written first endeavor for this first time director/producer! This film definately rates a thumbs up!

    Endorsement of a 2002 sure-hit!

Runnin' at Midnite captures the soul of what it is to grow up Latino/Native in urban America. Though the compelling story takes place in South Tucson, AZ, its messages and themes are universal whether in East Los Angeles, El Paso or Kansas City. The beautifully crafted story, cinematography, music and natural acting combine to create an experience that lingers long after the final scene. America needs to not only be entertained by Runnin' at Midnite but to listen to it's voices and pleas. The inspirational tale has something for the diverse audiences of this country and abroad.

Runnin' at Midnite is a must see that will keep your eyes only on the screen.

Runnin' at Midnite is a movie that will start a new era for movie making. It is the first of its kind that sets a new meaning on what a films should be like. Not only did the director, Pablo Toledo and the rest of the crew do an excellent job of portraying what it really is like to live on the South side of Tucson, but they captured the true meaning of not running away from your dreams means. It is a powerful message that is demonstrated so many times through out the film. With great intelligent and understanding of film making, Pablo Toledo was able to show the audience what happens to those who give up on their dreams and those who run towards their dreams. This movie should be seen not only by Tucsonans, but by those who understand what it is like to strive for a dream. Overall, this was a great movie that I had to see three time in three days because of how powerful and captivating it was. It's a must see.

    A worthy effort considering

I was one of the few people who has seen this film, and in some ways, it is inspirational. As a wannabe film maker, I get to see another local person fullfill their dream by creating something that was close to their heart. Sadly, this film was haunted by some inconsistencies and poor acting. I give the film a seven for effort and vision, but if it had better acting, it would certainly have a much higher rating.

One thing I will say about this movie is the fact that it tried to portray a more realistic version of Latinos. You hear black people complain about not being represented in the entertainment industry, one should examine the Latino plight. And Latinos (including myself) constitute a larger percentage of the population!

Hopefully, someone out there is listening and watching.

Personal review of Runnin' at Midnite

    • Runnin' at Midnite is a meaningful an engaging independent film production. With limited funds and in only 18 days of filming, writer/director Pablo Toledo has fulfilled his goal. This contemporary look at Barrio life, midnight basketball and families is at times stark and brutal, but always honest. The pioneer use of HDTV format to film, gives Runnin' at Midnite a sharp edge realistic look.

Woven throughout the story line are the choices of life. Midnight basketball is not just a safe haven for kids, it can be a positive learning experience to individuals who are open to change and help. I was immediately interested in all the characters, how would they survive and what choices would they make? The final scenes play out brilliantly, especially memorable are the interactions between Brandon and Louie. Louie in a wheelchair, the results of a gang lifestyle, and younger brother Brandon have been at odds with each other for sometime. In the end, they both learn survival lessons and the true meaning of family.

Give Runnin' at Midnite a grade of B. Go see it!
