"Female Market"(1986),written by the "Guts of a Virgin/Beauty" director Kazuo "Gaira" Komizu is very depressing and hard to take experience due to its extreme misogynistic atmosphere and violence. This is surely hyper dark and hyper sadistic stuff-the abduction scenes at the first half of this movie are so sick and mean spirited that I felt bad while watching it.If this was released in UK,it would run some 10 minutes only! Then comes the brief revenge part in the tradition of "Last House on the Left" and then the escape and it all ends very mysteriously and ominously. And the visuals are impressive as the film is as dark as they get.It is incredible how these Japanese exploitation sickies still manage to be very noteworthy cinematically if the makers just wish so and have talent. But as said,"Female Market" is very strong,so only fans of Japanese extreme cinema will stomach it.
This is one of those typical women in prison flicks you just can't feel comfortable watching it. Even with a lack of an actual story it still is watchable but you will have to sit through torture in sexual ways and humiliation of the captured woman.
If you aren't into those kind of flicks especially coming from Japan than you will hate this. I've seen a few of them and this one comes out of the hand of Guts of a Virgin/Beauty" director Kazuo "Gaira" Komizu then you should know enough. I surely can say that while watching it I can say that this is only for the strong horror buffs and surely not for women to watch.
It all starts with the capturing of a girl. Next shot you are already at the slavery room where some guys are having diner while a girl is hanging upside down naked begging for mercy. She gets it if she give head to one on the guys which she does. The close up of spitting out the semen gives you an idea of what to come. Oh yes, we do have on rebellion inside the group of girls but her punishment involves rape while being inserted with needles (see also Imprint (2005)). What makes it complete is the sad ending...
Only made for the lovers of (s)exploitation.

I liked this movie! It's very dark in how it show us the world of today, don't get your hopes up. You are left on your own and nobody is going to help you.
The story is not that special and does not really leave an imprint, but the pictures and the mood make it a nice view. The gloom and the feeling of being unable to make a difference kind of get to you.
It have the basics for it's genre: rape (repeatedly), torture, violence, nudity (but censored - kind of funny here in the western world where some nudity is OK, but the violence showed in this movie would make our censors go nuts), help from people you don't expect. Downright Evil bosses of some strange trafficking organization. Drug abuse, Malplaced showering scenes. Evil for it's own sake.
This is not a movie that I'm gonna see over and over again but I would recommend it to my friends (but not to my parents).
If you like the genre this is slightly more than one hour well spent.
It have a nice twist at the end and does not finish like you expect.

Not great by any means. If you have ever seen one of Jesus Franco"s women in prison films you have seen perhaps a better version of this one. The pinku one hour lenght does not do any good for the film for the plot seems quite unfinished and hurried. The scenes are not remarkable by anything but for how harsh and uncomfortable they are but i guess it was to be expected since it was written by the same man who did entrails of a virgin; while quite common and repetitive i found this film to resemble "the hostel" by Eli Roth quite a bit. I think everyone would agree that Hostel is the better movie (and by a long shot) but it still seemed interesting enough for me to point out.
The Japanese have a way of showing violence in a gritty manner. Not necessarily only because they show the violence in full view, but also because they manage to represent the evil that lurks within the human mind. The slave traders in this movie have no respect for human life. They are aware of it, and they love it. Nihilism has become a trademark in Japanese cinema. This movie has very little blood, but a lot of nudity, sexual violence, rape and torture. We follow some average women as they are going through a world of pain and misery, where twisted evil soul seek the ultimate rush of power and supremacy by the suffering and unhappiness of other individuals. This movies running time is not long, but that's exactly enough to deliver the punch in your face. Not a great movie, but good. It does what it can well, and deliver the message.
