Le père Lampion

All Christian-Jaque's first efforts were comedies ,and this one is no exception;a spoof on politicians ,some of its sides are probably still relevant today. As much a fable as it is a farce, when one of the conspirators who wants to take over the government confesses : first to save the country ,then to line our pockets .

So the rebels kidnap the president and confine him to an insane asylum where he gets a sweet icy shower every time he claims to be the president:pretty smart on their part ,isn't it?

But the lookalike of the president ,Le père Lampion, a hobo they found in the gutter , they want to use as a puppet for their nasty deals , shows himself a true reformer , who wins over the people of Carvolie ;although uneducated and clueless,he stands up to the embassy of this country of South America, he scorns his "mistress" ,a self-seeking bimbo, and takes care of his" family" , marrying his "daughter" to a young poet ,he becomes the beloved head of state who unfortunately only exists in your dreams.

Many witty lines and a not so bad if rudimentary spoof on politics.
