Exclusive: Production designer Donald Graham Burt has signed with Gersh for representation.

Burt is a two-time Academy Award and BAFTA winner for his work on Mank and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, a pair of acclaimed films from David Fincher. The former drama, starring Gary Oldman, which also brought Burt the award for Best Production Design at the Critics Choice Awards, focused on screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz and his turbulent journey in writing the screenplay for the iconic 1941 film Citizen Kane. The latter stars Brad Pitt as a man born with the physical appearance and ailments of an elderly person, who ages in reverse.

These projects mark just two of Burt’s collaboration with Fincher. Over the years, he’s also worked with the director on titles including Zodiac, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and The Killer, as well as Netflix’s House of Cards.

Longlegs star Nicolas Cage voiced the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and we’re going to have the chance to watch him play the character in live-action in the upcoming MGM+ and Prime Video series that’s going by the title Spider-Noir. Michelle Pfeiffer is set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ adaptation of the Rufi Thorpe novel “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” Variety has learned.

When the end of Yellowstone was officially announced last year, Paramount Network had set the wheels in motion for two more spinoffs. There was the prequel series, to be set in 1944, and then the present-day continuation, set to take place after the events of Yellowstone, which had the working title 2024.

Now, that sequel series is very much beginning to take shape.

Noah Wyle is going back to his roots, with the actor set to star in a medical procedural series that has been ordered at Max.

Variety has learned that Max has given a 15-episode order to the series, currently titled “The Pitt.” Wyle will star and executive produce the show, which is described as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh,” per the official logline.

R. Scott Gemmill will serve as showrunner on the series, with John Wells executive producing. ABC Signature head of creative affairs Tracy Underwood has been elevated to president of the Disney-owned TV studio.

Underwood, who has been at the studio since 2010, will be filling the role vacated in July by Jonnie Davis. Davis was named president of ABC Signature (then ABC Studios) in July 2019 in the wake of the 21st Century Fox-Disney merger.

Reporting to Eric Schrier, president of Disney Television Studios and global original TV strategy for Disney Entertainment, Underwood will now oversee all creative affairs, including the studio’s development of drama, comedy and limited series, as well as the current series slate.

Senior vice president of series Sydnee Rimes will continue to lead the current series team, now reporting into Underwood. Susan Lewis, senior vice president of drama development, and Danny Feldheim, senior vice president of comedy development, will continue to report to Underwood.

Underwood’s prior role will not be backfilled.

This past weekend, actressexuals and Pfeiffer pfans were scandalized when Lucas Hedges revealed he had never seen a movie starring Michelle Pfeiffer before working with her on French Exit. I kid, while also admitting I was surprised. Being only two years older than Hedges, I've seen plenty of Pfeiffer movies as have many of my friends, ranging from work by renowned auteurs to blockbuster fare. Hers is a varied filmography. She may have only been nominated thrice for the Oscars, but Michelle Pfeiffer has delivered a fair share of awards-worthy star turns and her range is quite expansive. Equally brilliant in big leading parts and small supporting roles, broad comedy and thrilling drama, Pfeiffer is one of my favorite actresses and I'd love nothing more than to share my adoration with you, dear readers.

With that in mind, let's delve into one of the best performances in her resume.

Michelle Pfeiffer has signed on to star as Betty Ford in the upcoming Showtime series “The First Lady,” Variety has learned. In addition, Susanne Bier has signed on to direct and executive produce the anthology series.

Formerly known as “First Ladies,” the show is described as a reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House. Pfeiffer joins previously announced cast member Viola Davis, who will star as Michelle Obama. The first season of the series will also explore the life of Eleanor Roosevelt, with that role yet to be cast.

Ford was the First Lady of the United States from 1974 to 1977 as the wife of President Gerald Ford. She was active in social policy and set a precedent as a politically active presidential spouse and one of the most candid first ladies in history, commenting on every hot-button issue of the time.

“It’s an honor just to be nominated” is the overused line that many Oscar nominees have said over the years, particularly after a loss. Though that’s true, winning a coveted statuette is the real prize.

The highest-profile overdue veteran actor competing for an Oscar this season is Glenn Close, the wisecracking Mamaw in Ron Howard’s “Hillbilly Elegy.” With seven previous nominations (the most of any living actor without a win), Close, who has delivered win-worthy turns in “Dangerous Liaisons” and “Fatal Attraction” looks to finally have her moment. Her most recent loss, for 2018’s “The Wife” to Olivia Colman in “The Favourite,” was felt in awards enthusiast circles. With what seems a thin roster of supporting actress contenders this year, Close is in the running once again, looking to go against Colman’s work in “The Father.”

Close’s co-star Amy Adams is playing the same card this year in “Hillbilly Elegy.

Do the Oscars hate comedies? If you look over their 92-year history, with so many infectious films and performances ignored in favor of more “serious” pieces of art, the assumption could be made. This year, faced with the Covid-19 pandemic, and with theaters not being the normal avenue to watch films, moviegoers and industry professionals are viewing releases more differently than ever.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. pushed the Golden Globes to Feb. 28, 2021, the last day of the eligibility window for the Oscars. With their best comedy or musical designation, the Globes can highlight the laughs in a year that’s seen so much tragedy. It’s possible that Oscar voters, with fewer films to consider, will think outside the box when making selections for the Academy Awards, which will be held in April 2021.

ABC Signature’s senior vice president Tracy Underwood has been upped to the newly created position of executive vice president of creative affairs of ABC Studios, where she will broaden her purview to oversee all scripted development of comedy and drama at ABC Studios and ABC Signature.

The promotion, which is effective immediately, puts Underwood in charge of identifying writers for potential projects and guiding ideas to fruition, among other tasks. All ABC Studios development teams now report to her. She will report to ABC Studios president Jonnie Davis.

“When I started at ABC Studios, I knew I needed a key senior executive overseeing the development of all of our projects, and almost immediately Tracy emerged as the perfect person for the job,” said Davis in a statement. “She really is a creative force in this company, with exceptional taste in material, deep relationships with writers and a keen eye for compelling IP.

This year, actress Renee Zellweger will receive the 2020 Courage Award for her charitable contributions and philanthropic efforts throughout her career, including her support of breast cancer research and awareness.

Last week, #lovewins was the hashtag heard around the world when the Supreme Court ruled gay marriage was a Constitutional right. And the timing couldn't be better for "Jenny's Wedding," which takes on the topic head on and a new trailer has landed for the film. Written and directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue (who also penned "Beaches," "White Oleander," and "Veronica Guerin"), and starring Katherine Heigl, Alexis Bledel, Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond, and Grace Gummer, the story follows Jenny, who comes out of the closet to her family and announces that she will be marrying her partner Kitty, and must deal with consequences of disappointment and surprises that follow. The dramedy doesn't feel particularly groundbreaking in a narrative sense, but the emotions ring true, and the cast looks pretty solid all around. A simple story, well told and with a bit of heart looks to be goal and "Jenny's Wedding" aims to hit it.

Every few hours, a new and highly random top ten list to kick off the Fall Movie Season (our favorite time of year!). Let's start with something that's been haunting me because I forgot to post about the 25th anniversary of The Fabulous Baker Boys yesterday, one of my all time favorite films. A long time ago in a New York City that still felt like a galaxy far far away (I was a recent transplant... 1999/2000?) I attended a Jeff Bridges photography show. He's really a very good photographer and takes photos on the sets of his movies. I stared and stared at this enormous black & white photograph of Michelle Pfeiffer that Bridges had taken.

Always a fan of changing up her style, Vanessa Hudgens showed off her new ombre blue coif via Instagram yesterday (June 2).

The “Spring Breakers” babe gave a flirty face as she posed for the selfie beneath a crown of flowers, creating a hippie/hottie effect.

Hudgens captioned the photo, “She would be half a planet away, floating in a turquoise sea, dancing by moonlight to flamenco guitar.Janet Fitch, White Oleander.”

And given her perennial appearances at Coachella, Vanessa’s latest look is pretty much what we’d expect heading into summer.

Update: It's been confirmed that former "Homeland" star Damian Lewis will play Henry VIII opposite top-shelf Shakespeare thespian Mark Rylance in the BBC's upcoming Hilary Mantel adaptations "Wolf Hall" and "Bring Up the Bodies." The series is set to air on BBC2 next year -- no word yet on a stateside air date, though it's a co-production with PBS. Earlier: Now that Damian Lewis is Nick Brody no more, the former "Homeland" star is heading to "Wolf Hall." The PBS-bbc drama is a six-part TV adaptation of Hilary Mantel's novels, "Wolf Hall" and "Bring Up the Bodies." Lewis is in talks to star as Henry VIII. Fine Shakespearean actor Mark Rylance is already on board, playing the King's ruthless counselor Thomas Cromwell. Damian Lewis has found his next TV gig. The former Homeland star, who earned an Emmy for his turn as Nicholas Brody, has been cast opposite Mark Rylance in Wolf Hall, an adaptation of Hilary Mantel's historic novels, airing domestically on Masterpiece on PBS. Lewis is set to play Henry VIII, with Rylance on board as Thomas Cromwell in the six-part miniseries being written by Oscar nominee Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). Masterpiece has just confirmed that erstwhile Homeland star Damian Lewis will play Henry VIII opposite Mark Rylance as Thomas Cromwell in upcoming miniseries Wolf Hall. The adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Booker Prize winning historical fiction novels Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies is a Company Pictures and Playground co-production for BBC Two and Masterpiece. Peter Kosminsky (White Oleander) is directing the six-part drama from a script by Peter Straughan (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy). Katherine Heigl, formerly of Grey’s Anatomy, formerly of Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen‘s good graces, formerly of a slew of successful romantic comedies and currently of a Nyquil commercial and some truly unfortunate casting choices, has a new film on the way. Called Jenny’s Wedding, Heigl stars as a lesbian who has been hiding her sexuality from her family for years, until she decides to take the next step in her relationship with her longtime girlfriend, Kitty, played by Alexis Bledel (Gilmore Girls, Mad Men). The news of Jenny’s impending nuptials is enough to tear her family apart, especially since they’re small-town conservatives who have believed up until this point that their daughter’s girlfriend is her roommate. Katherine Heigl, Tom Wilkinson, Linda Emond and Grace Gummer will star in Jenny’S Wedding, written and to be directed by Mary Agnes Donoghue (Beaches).

The film is set to start shooting on October 28.

Jenny’S Wedding revolves around Jenny (Heigl) who causes a massive sea-change in the lives of her closely knit, highly conventional family when she finally decides to marry. A pretty and engaging woman, everyone is baffled by Jenny’s lack of a love-life, and her parents (Wilkinson, Emond) particularly have been anxious for her to settle down, but when the announcement comes that she is finally going to wed, her choice of partner tears the family apart. In order to reconnect, everyone including Jenny, must reinvent themselves.

The announcement was made today by producers Donoghue, Gail Levin and Mm Productions’ Michelle Manning.

Lionsgate has upped Taryn Manning to a series regular for the second season of its Netflix series Orange Is The New Black. Netflix last month ordered a second season of the prison dramedy, in which Manning plays Tiffany ‘Pennsatucky’ Doggett on the show – a meth addict who is the youngest of six children born to drug and alcohol addicted parents in rural Virginia. Manning, who’s repped by Apa, Oren Segal of Radius Entertainment, and Felker Toczek Gellman Suddleson Llp, recently completed shooting Low Down, from writer/producer Jeff Preiss, opposite John Hawkes, Elle Fanning, Ezra Miller, Glenn Close, Tim Daly, Peter Dinklage and Flea. Credits for Manning include guest gigs on Hawaii Five-o and Sons Of Anarchy; film-wise, her credits include Love Ranch, Hustle & Flow, Cold Mountain, 8 Mile, A Lot Like Love, White Oleander, Crazy/Beautiful and Crossroads.

When did you start reading The Film Experience?

Around the time that Far From Heaven was released in theaters.  I was realizing that Julianne Moore was my favorite actress, so your blog was mecca when I was in college.  I love the site because it doesn't just celebrate movies, but it helped me realize that movies can be bad with something great in them (and vice versa). 

What's your earliest movie memory?

Joey: The earliest memory I have is when my Dad took me to go see Beauty and the Beast.  I remember playing around outside, and he asked if I wanted to go.  I didn't actually answer his question, because I got so excited and just got...
