A nice film, for image, decent acting, connection between a venerable man and his granddaughter, gifts and nature. Yes, not very profound story and not the most great surprises. But reasonable and seductive, in some measure. For many reasons, it is enough , especially as holliday film.
I would like to say something about the movie, cause that's what this thing is for, remember? I understand that it's very disappointing when the movie is different from the book you've read. I think the movie was lovely, I haven't read the book, maybe that's better. I would just like to say that if you think a book is wonderful DON'T WATCH THE MOVIE. I think it's good that they've changed the story, so that it's still fun to watch. I don't know if you've ever read the Harry Potter books and watched the movie, but they are very different, but that's the nice thing about it. It has to be interesting. This is what I wanted to say, everybody please shut up about "the book is way better" and so on!
This is the most touching story (movie I have watched ) On Disney channel. The ending is sad and I think Disney channel has made it even more touching. This is a good movie and I never planned on watching it until today. I think it is very very excellent as a movie, I rate it highly. This movie should be shown more on Disney channel. Most people disagree but I think it could bring a whole new meaning to what people think about the Disney channel. I think that the movie had some good points about life and everything. And it makes you realize the meaning of life. Well I guess that I am saying that the movie is good, and the picture from the director and the crew they did a really good job at presenting this movie.
I absolutely loved this movie. For one thing, dolphins are one of my favorite animals, and watching them actually not really being held in capivity was really nice.
The movie is about a girl, Vicky (Mischa Barton) who can tell what dolphins are thinking. She and her brother and sister are staying with their grandfather (James Whitmore) for the summer, where they meet Adam (Ryan Merriman). He is studying Marine Biology.
All in all, this movie is one of Disney's best. I thought it was very realistic and was a wonderful story.

but then again, which movies, that are based on books, are true to the book? This movie was alright, acting was okay...but i think the book is way more interesting but it IS a bit dramatic for a Disney flick. In the book, there is another boy chasing after Vicky, named Leo and Zachary isn't so innocent in the book as he is in the movie.I recommend reading the book and then seeing the movie.

- TriviaSeveral elements from the original story have been changed: in the novel, Vicky and her family knew about her grandfather's condition the entire time, she had an older brother, her younger sister was much older, there was a third boy she was interested in, the plot element about drift nets was entirely absent, and her parents were present during the whole trip at the grandfather's house.
- GoofsIn the opening scene, while Mischa Barton's character dreams of swimming as a mermaid, she does a somersault underwater that plainly reveals the flawed state of the fake tail: a flap of fabric from the waist is shown dangling, her knees scrunch up the material, and the entire waistline crinkles up.
