This is an Excellent Documentary film!

This film does not glorify stripping or preach about how evil it is, it just show the true nature of the business. This films film does not show these women as Movie Stars or objects of sexual fantasy, it show them as women who are just trying to get by and survive in a world that most turned to reluctantly, but are now trying to make the best of their current situations.

If, by the end of this film, you don't have compassion or deep feelings for at least one of these women, there is something seriously wrong with your heart. And if you're looking for a feel good, Hollywood ending, pick another film, this film is hard dose of reality.

    Tedious

Tedious documentary that follows 5 or 6 women (including the director herself) as they make their living in the New York area as topless dancers. None really has much of a story to tell or much of anything interesting to say. Film fails to give real insight on life as an exotic dancer. Funniest moment (though probably not intentionally so) is when one of the ladies compares getting breast implants to the special effects in Star Wars.

Though not an exploitative piece of film making, the DVD box bizarrely touted that "2 of the 5 women interviewed have died."

    Hard to Watch

I really don't think this film or it's reviews fully explain how hard this film is to watch. Even if your into woman's issues or indy-films I think you would still have trouble watching this movie.

First of all this entire film looks like it was shot with the camcorder my family had in the 80's. It was a VHS camera must have weighed 50 pounds. That being said it takes place with the main character begins working in a strip club.

At least she had a tripod so she could get shots of her self going into and leaving buildings. Just a little tip to the film maker: YOU DON"T NEED ONE OF THESE EVERY TIME YOU CHANGE LOCATION. She leaves a lot into this film and it makes the pace incredibly slow.

Second it that 2/3 of this movie is taking heads. Honestly non-stop women complaining, they just kept going on and on. No hope Just girls complaining again and again.

Very slow, I hope her next film picks up the pace.

    A Brutal Glimpse

A brutally effective look at the lifestyle of exotic dancers: plastic surgery, self-esteem issues, rationalizations, attempts to quit. Illustrates the wide gap between male and female sexuality, especially at strip clubs.

The documentary has poor production values, and most material was taken from just one group interview. It seems like a project that was abandoned for a while, then hurriedly completed.

On the other hand, the movie is structured well, with the relatively positive viewpoint early in the movie turning, on an outsider's experiences, into a more finely-tuned portrait in the second half.

Even despite its shortcomings, a very powerful documentary.

Documentary about the experience, not the nakedness

Misleading title for a very heartfelt and honest portrayal of what it's like to work as an exotic dancer. Morley tried it as a stripper for six weeks, and documented the experience. The film is a discussion of this, and also interviews with several dancers of varying backgrounds and success. It will open your eyes. Particularly good are the discussions by dancers of their feelings towards men while "in the business," and after short vacations. There are some surprises towards the end, so hang in there. In all, if you want to see some breasts, rent another flick. If you want to learn something, then you're in for a treat. I give it a 8, for what it is, not for what it isn't.
