Such a wonderful way to ask for candycandycandycandy. Well it's Garfield's way. And candy he certainly gets in this wonderful Halloween Special. It all starts on one cozy Halloween morn with Garfield waking to the sound of the TV. Normally he'd be irate at waking so early but when he learns what day it is he cannot wait to go trickortreating and get his paws on some candycandycandycandy!
He and Odie dress as pirates and go off on an adventure that happens to involve the ghosts of REAL pirates and real buried treasure. In the course of these brilliant 25 minutes we get the typical assortment of great Garfield humor and wonderful songs.
If only the movie were this good.

I remember when I was little I was terrified of the old man and his house. I actually knew where the voice actor for him lived. Honestly when I watch it now I still get some chills from the spooky background design but I then feel protected by Garfield's warm voice. I also really like the music in this movie.
It's still always a delight to revisit these classic seasonal animated specials that were so much a part of my childhood. In addition to 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown', watching 'Garfield in Disguise', a.k.a. 'Garfield's Halloween Adventure', remains a tradition. The story has our favourite orange cat rudely awakened by the incredibly annoying Binky the Clown one morning who soon gets Garfield's attention by calling attention to Halloween night. And Garfield of course is not going to pass up the opportunity to go and collect a ton of candy, candy, candy, candy. In their attempt to maximize their candy collection, he and Odie take a boat to an island where a creepy old man spins them a tale of long dead treasure seeking pirates - who inevitably make an appearance. There's a lot of fun packed into these 24 minutes, including the catchy songs sung by the late, great Lorenzo Music, provider of Garfield's voice for so many years, and Lou Rawls. Funny comedy moments include those with Jon, who's only briefly on hand here, who has his pumpkin land on his head when Garfield startles him. Another hilarious sight gag arises when the odds and ends Garfield tosses about land on Odie and the cat gets a look at him. The scenes with the sinister old tale spinner and the ghosts, which could frighten the younger viewers, are fittingly spooky. And, in the end, it's touching the way Odie often looks out for his more selfish companion, and the way Garfield ultimately recognizes this and gives Odie what he's rightfully earned. The comic strip version of the story contains some additional material involving a purloined ring. Overall, 'Garfield in Disguise' is irresistible to this fan of the strip.

This one I remember back, way back. It's a well written, well animated, excellently voiced Halloween special. Adults can actually watch it for the plot. It has a wonderful mood to it.
Not like the junk we see today, like the stuff that gets computer cranked out.
Unfortunately it never seems to get back on TV. This and Spongebob's Halloween where he dresses up like the Flying Dutchman and Patrick tries to make him scary are classics.
Im not sure if it might scare very young children, it is just good fun. Some kids just more sensitive to these things. In that case you might want to seek out the book, Garfield's Halloween Adventure (Formerly Titled Garfield in Disguise) and read it to them first.
This is one case where the movie is better then the book.

I am a Garfield fan and this is my favorite special with him in it. Garfield and Odie go Trick-Or-Treating and end up on an adventure. It is very amusing and should be enjoyable for anyone to watch, even people who don't like Garfield.
