Prize Fighter

Prize Fighter is a boxing video game developed by Digital Pictures and released by Sega for its Sega CD in 1993. Like other Digital Pictures titles, it is an interactive movie utilizing full motion video. As far as i know it was never released for any other system except Sega CD.

Played entirely from a first-person perspective, the game casts players as an upstart boxer known as "The Kid", who must fight a series of opponents (played by Jimmy Nickerson, Manny Perry, Billy Lucas and Ben Bray and win the championship.

This is one of the first games i got when i got my Sega CD system back in the 1990's and i still play it occasionally up to this day. It's lots of fun once you get the hang of it and it also has a training mode that shows arrows on the screen to help you along the way.

During matches, players punch and block to defeat the opponent, each of whom has a different style. Between fights, cut scenes play in which your approached by various people who look up to you, to gangsters who want you to intentionally lose a fight.

In the end is this a great game? Maybe, for me anyway cause i love Full Motion Video games, whether they are good or bad. I like Prize Fighter but the fighting can be frustrating for some, especially if you don't add the arrows. Another issue is you need to power up your fighter before you can take on your next opponent. If you don't they will destroy you without questions. The cut scenes are good and the story is interesting which makes you want to fight and continue..

Sure it could have had better graphics, better playability, more fighters, but overall it's still good and if you like FMV games then give it a go.
