One of the best psychological story of Tamil cinema - Thalapathy Vijay the one man show in this great content

I have watched some psychological movie in tamil cinema such as Priyamudan, Vaali and Kadhal Konden and they are a great movies. But what made Kannukul Nillavu different from them is the lead role not gone mentally illness because of love, but because felt guilty that he can't saved a woman who trust him. If you watched movie, in first half the story made you think that Gowtham (Vijay) love gayathri and loose her but the twist come when he meet Dr. Rajashekar (Raghuvaran).

The story content, Vijay performance and Illayaraja music are the soul of kannukul Nilavu. Story/screenplay of this movie are excelent and well written, none of the scene made me feel bore, Fazil sir gave an good treat for audience with his direction, Cinematography also worked well, many set are beautifully designed.

Vijay gave a stunning appearance as a mentally disorders people in this movie, he can easily made people laugh with his great comic timming and funny body language but in pre climax he stole the show with his intense and scary performance and dialogue delivery, i can say he is the one man show in this movie and put the movie on his shoulder. Fazil as director did a great direction but i believe that Vijay also did improvisation to made movie feel more dramatic.

Shalini as Hema bring some light for the movie with her role as a helper of Vijay, Raghuvaran and Srividya role made story more powerfull despite the short screen time and they played it well.

Another good thing of this movie is its music from maestro Illayaraja. Song like Nillavu Pattu, Oru Naal Oru Kanavu, Roja Ponthotham and Iravu Pagalai Theeda (Vijay version) are good to hear and well composed. For Bgm, climax Bgm are the top notch.

Weakness of this film is one of the comedy scene (haunted house scene) are not funny and feel useless for the movie.

In my opinion, Kannukul Nilavu are worth to watch more than one time watching. Story content and Vijay performance will amaze you. Do watch it with your family.

A well written thriller with amazing music

In my opinion, writing is good when it respects the intelligence of the audience and also leaves nothing unambiguous. Kannukkul Nilavu executes that wonderfully well beyond several times of its time.

The plot moves steadily, not leaving too much scope for the audience to theorize, setting up reveals at appropriate times which earns the attention that it manages to keep.

Continuity is pretty good in the film, with no notable errors.

Supporting characters do a good job, genuinely contributing to the plot and not trying to squeeze in anything that doesn't fit for the film. Vijay is more a character in the film than a great hero who wants to earn some cheap whistles. He delivers a role that is completely in line with the seriousness of the film and only shines through his performance, not to mention a little singing.

The film respected Shalini, Raghuvaran and Srividya's roles, with each sticking genuinely to their role. Writing doesn't make anyone seen it of character, and doesn't make the audience hate anyone. I can be sure that I'll be revisiting this film for reasons different from why I re-watch other Vijay films: this time it won't be got fun but to admire a good setup and a good reveal in a film that rises above formulaic mass movies.

I wish we had more films like this from the early 2000s.

    Underrated movie

This movie is so underrated, Vijay played the character so well, a Pyscho Anti Hero. I would suggest everyone to watch this movie
