Three new names have been added to Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight.
Lee Horsley, Craig Stark and Belinda Owino have joined the western, which began filming yesterday (January 23), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The film is set around a decade after the Civil War and features a group of eight people, including bounty hunters and fugitives, who are forced to bunk up in a stagecoach stopover when a storm hits.
The Hateful Eight is made up of Django Unchained's Samuel L Jackson as the Bounty Hunter, Kurt Russell as the Hangman and Jennifer Jason Leigh playing Daisy Domergue.
Walton Goggins plays the Sheriff, Demián Bichir as the Mexican, Tim Roth as the Little Man, Michael Madsen as the Cow Puncher and Bruce Dern as the Confederate.

Kerry Washington is killing it these days. But you already knew that. She’s become a cultural icon as Scandal‘s Olivia Pope, and consequently one of the most visible actresses in Hollywood. But where was she before she was a card-carrying member of Shondaland?
For the most part, she was “that girl in that movie.” You couldn’t really place her. But now, her small roles in movies you’ve seen but never recognized her in mean so much more. In fact, now she has the clout to retroactively add star power to any movie. Namely, these five movies you forgot Kerry Washington was in. (Note: we’re skipping the ones no one you know has probably ever heard of.)

Almost like a stagecoach making its way across the deadly landscape of the American West, Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight has endured many twists and turns on the way to its 2015 release, but it's finally passed a comforting landmark. The movie officially has a cast now, which means it's going to be way harder to cancel again. The eponymous eight are: Samuel L. Jackson as Major Marquis Warren, "The Bounty Hunter"; Kurt Russell as John Ruth, "The Hangman"; Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue, "The Prisoner"; Walton Goggins as Chris Mannix, "The Sheriff"; Demáin Bichir as Bob, "The Mexican"; Tim Roth as Oswaldo Mobray, "The Little Man"; Bruce Dern as General Sanford Smithers, "The Confederate"; and Michael Madsen as Joe Gage, "The Cow Puncher." Channing Tatum will also make a cameo, which has become something of a hobby for him. A few of these castings were known before, but...

Fans of Oscar-winning filmmaker Quentin Tarantino know that the writer/director has had a very eventful 2014 as he begins work on his newest Western, The Hateful Eight. An infamous script leak caused the auteur to consider shelving the project entirely, but he thereafter had a change of heart and is now prepping his new movie for release sometime in 2015.

Don’t We Want ’70s-Style Adult Thrillers Like ‘A Walk Among The Tombstones’? A Chat With Scott Frank
Everybody says, bring back those great, gritty 70s adult thrillers. Scott Frank makes one with Liam Neeson in A Walk Among The Tombstones, and not enough people show up to launch it into a franchise. With $13 million in ticket sales so far, it’s $5 million short of what it is needed to trigger more films based on the Matthew Scudder character from Lawrence Block’s mystery novels. I can sit here and wonder if the results would have been better had Universal opened it after Denzel Washington’s turn in The Equalizer this Friday, when appetites will be whetted for challenging adult films and heroes without capes. Or I can point to the squeamishness of some critics who blasted Frank for faithfully adapting a novel about Scudder’s hunt for two serial killers preying on the girlfriends and daughters of drug dealers. It is hard to pretty that up, but one normally smart,...

Summer movie season is a magic time of year when Hollywood traditionally rolls out its most appealing merchandise. It’s true that some summer movie seasons are better than others. This is our ranking of all the summer movie seasons since 1980 from worst to best.
On January 20th, 1975, Steven Spielberg and Universal Studios released Jaws. The movie landscape would be forever changed from that date. Jaws is widely credited as being the first blockbuster film because it was the first movie to make over $100 million (non-adjusted). The fact that the film had a meager $8 million budget meant that it was a huge cash cow for the studio and rocketed Spielberg to the the forefront of a new generation of filmmakers for a new era of movie mass-consumption. My, how time flies. The latest leak in Quentin Tarantino's ship is the teaser for his next movie, "The Hateful Eight." It's running before screenings of "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," but somehow it's made its way to the Internet. Imagine that! Who would do such a thing? Guess we'll have to wait and see if anyone forces this anonymous user to choose between taking it down and facing the auteur's litigious wrath.
If you'll remember, Quentin Tarantino was threatening to shelve "The Hateful Eight" for the indefinite future after a mysterious script leak last January. In April, he held a three and a half hour live reading of the script in Los Angeles with a cast of his favorite actors. A few weeks ago, the poster for "The Hateful Eight" appeared in Empire, complete with a release date - well, a release year, anyway.

Following the news last week that a teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino's upcoming western "The Hateful Eight" would hit cinemas with "Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" this week, a description of said trailer has gone online over at Collider.
As filming hasn't begun, there's understandably no footage. Instead there's text and graphics which give a break down of the characters and their nicknames:
Major Marquis Warren: "The Bounty Hunter"
John Ruth: "The Hangman"
Daisy Domergue: "The Prisoner"
Chris Mannix: "The Sheriff"
Bob: "The Mexican"
Oswald Mobray: "The Little Man"
Joe Gage: "The Cow Puncher"
General Sandy Smithers: "The Confederate"
The clip itself opens on snow dunes as a western-style ballad plays. The title cards indicates strangers have been stranded together in a blizzard, and "they soon discovered they shared a deadly connection".
Up comes "The New Film by Quentin Tarantino," followed by that character list above,...

Last week, we reported that fans who buy a Sin City: A Dame to Kill For ticket will be the first to see a teaser trailer for Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Western The Hateful Eight. The catch is, it will not be debuting online. We know that this trailer won't contain any actual footage, since production hasn't even started yet, but Collider has a description of this teaser, which confirms the Western is being shot in 70Mm Super CinemaScope.
The story is set after the Civil War in Wyoming, and centers on a group of stagecoach passengers who get stranded together during a blizzard, with a majority of the story taking place in a dive bar. The trailer opens in typical Western fashion, with an unidentified ballad and title cards that set up these strangers being trapped together, followed by, "They soon discovered they shared a deadly connection." Tom Rothman’s TriStar Productions has acquired the worldwide rights and given the go ahead to Money Monster, a fast-paced, character-driven thriller written by Jamie Linden. Daniel Dubiecki, who worked with George Clooney on Up In The Air, and Lara Alameddine developed the script along with Jodie Foster, who will direct the film. Dubiecki and Alameddine’s The Allegiance Theater will produce together with Clooney and his Smokehouse Pictures partner Grant Heslov. Alan Difore and Jim Kouf wrote the original draft of the script.
Principal photography is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2015.
Clooney stars as Lee Gates, a bombastic television stock huckster, whose program (the titular “Money Monster”), and life, are taken hostage by an outraged gunman. As much of the world watches live, Gates must keep himself alive and, with help from the woman who produces the show, uncover the truth behind a tangle of big money lies.

A strangely lost and not yet found film (Reel finds, G2, 2 May) is Fritz Wendhausen's Little Man What Now (1933), with Hertha Thiele and art direction by Caspar Neher. This film co-scripted by the author of the novel, Hans Fallada was originally to be directed by Berthold Viertel, with music by Kurt Weill, prominent Jews who had to leave Germany. The novel was an international bestseller and was filmed in Hollywood by Frank Borzage a year later, in a sentimentalised version rejected by Fallada. A poster exists for the 1933 version, but the film itself seems to have been wiped off the face off the earth. Fallada was dubbed "undesirable", by the Nazis. Was the film perhaps too intolerable for them? It it followed the book, it does contain a comically stupid Nazi oaf. There will be a prize for anyone who can track down a copy of this film.

Amongst other things, this weekend’s release of A Haunted House 2 might make you wonder: Why are the Wayans brothers? That's not an incomplete thought, but a reflection of the existential malaise the barely-were comedians now inspire. Between this movie, its predecessor, a pair of Scary Movies, White Chicks, Dance Flick, and Little Man, Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen Ivory have racked up an embarrassment of embarrassments. Still, at least one Wayans has produced a good movie. 1988’s I'm Gonna Git You Sucka, written, directed by, and starring Keenen Ivory, is everything their recent efforts are not. While both Scary Movies and both A Haunted House movies look down on the horror genre they send up, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka lovingly sends up tropes used in blaxploitation films like Shaft, Dolemite, and Super Fly. In his film, Keenen Ivory broke the genre down to a main theme: black protagonists'...

Actor/writer Marlon Wayans is best known for his frequent collaborations with his older brothers Keenan, Damon, and Shawn in successful comedies such as Scary Movie, White Chicks (where he dressed as a Caucasian female), and Little Man (as a baby with Marlon Wayan’s head) and The Wayans Bros TV show. Marlon has had the opportunity to flex his acting chops in roles for more acclaimed directors such as Darren Aranofsky in Requiem For A Dream and the Cohen Brothers in The Lady Killers. Last year Wayans wrote, produced, and starred in the spoof A Haunted House which cost just 2 ½ million dollars and grossed over 40 million. A Haunted House 2 opens nationwide this Friday, April 18th. If you’re like me, you learned way too much of your history from comic books. That’s how I first learned about Orson Welles and his infamous Mercury Theater “War Of The Worlds” broadcast which took place seventy-five years ago today, when the Atom went back in time and… well, why tell you when I can show you? From December 1974, here’s the back-up story from Action Comics #442, written by ComicMix columnist Martin Pasko and drawn by Mike Grell, here’s The Atom, or as he’s known here, “The Little Man From Mars!”
Here’s a thought that shocked me when I realized it: it’s been a longer amount of time from the time this story was published to today than it’s been from when this story was published back to the time when the War Of The Worlds radio broadcast happened.

When I was around six, I was asked what kind of haircut I wanted.
This was big deal because up until then I had no say over anything in my life. This was my very first grown up decision and I had to weigh it carefully.
Even at six I knew this was a life changing moment. My mother told me to think about it while we were on the bus going to the barber shop. We lived in South Jamaica Queens at the time and except for church there was no place, no place as honored in the black community.
For me there were no two places I hated going to more than church and the barbershop.
What was there to like at the barbershop?
It smelled horrible from all the cigarette and cigar smoke mingled with the distinct smell of snuff being spat into a spittoon. For all...

I’ve often maintained that the best fantasies are ones that have one foot firmly set in reality. We need something to which we can relate. We are asked to enter into a “willing suspension of disbelief,” as coined by the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. However impossible or implausible in reality an event in literature is, we accept it. Quite simply, we’re being told a story and we concede reality to get on with the story – up to a point.
When Superman first appeared in 1938 he was a fantastic character but, in those early stories, he fought real-life villains and situations – slums, gangsters, crooked politicians, corrupt cops and so on. The United States, like most of the world, was still deep in the Great Depression. World War II was looming. For so many people, the reality was that the banks had failed them, the courts had failed them, the police failed them,...

Though Netflix’s Emmy-nominated political drama House of Cards recently lost one acclaimed director, David Fincher, for its second season, don’t feel too bad for the show. After all, it just gained another supremely talented filmmaker to direct an upcoming episode – Oscar winner Jodie Foster.
Foster, who has won two Academy Awards for Best Actress for her leading performances in The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs, previously worked with Netflix when she helmed a first-season episode of the streaming giant’s acclaimed prison dramedy Orange Is the New Black. Now, with the news that Foster will team with Netflix again for one episode of House of Cards‘ second season, it seems clear that the company is very interested in keeping the A-lister around. According to sources, Foster is already prepping for her episode on location in Baltimore, where House of Cards films.

If you’re one of the few poor souls who live in complete isolation or without access to the news then you most likely missed the news that a baby was born on the 22nd of July. This, my friends, is no ordinary baby. This is a baby that was delivered by the almighty God to us mere plebs; this baby was draped in golden ivory and was caressed by the angels of the echelons of the heavens. That’s the reaction you would have made upon hearing the news of the birth of Javier Bardem’s and Penelope Cruz’s second daughter who was born on 22 July 2013.
No? Oh, it’s most likely your reaction to the birth of “The Royal baby”. I use quotation marks to signify the importance of this boy by the media coverage he received. I must stress the importance of this child, this is...

The Killing is the kind of show that requires patience. It’s a slow burner, very much in the style of Swedish and Danish films and television (it’s based on the Danish hit Forbrydelsen). Dark and gloomy, The Killing is various shades of grey and it’s backdrop of Seattle makes for a fitting setting. Seasons 1 and 2 of The Killing, centered around the mystery of who killed Rosie Larson, a sweet but troubled teenage from a loving family. When the mystery of Rosie’s murder wasn’t solved by the end of Season 1, fans of the show were left frustrated. Season Two was a bit of a slog, the tension seeping out of the story like an old air mattress with a mysterious leak. There were too many characters whose motivations were unclear, and too many subplots that just weren’t all that interesting.

No matter what you thought of Jodie Foster's Golden Globes speech, you have to admit the woman is an all-star actress. She's been in more than 40 films and over 25 TV series, so it was hard to decide what her best role ever could be. It wasn't hard, though, to discuss how good she was in every single one.
Group, what's your favorite Jodie Foster film?
Dorothy Snarker: I absolutely, positively cannot pick just one because she was my very first crush. So there. Rules be damned. For sentimental reasons, Stealing Home because it came out during my formative years and I watched it on a seemingly endless loop on our family's contraband HBO feed. Those blue eyes mesmerized me. For action reasons, Flightplan because she took a role originally written for a male lead and helped to, again, show that women...

Chicago – When it comes to the art of spoofing the current movie culture, few have done it with more success than Marlon Wayans. As a sibling member of the Wayans Brothers, he has spent his career doing take-offs in films such as the “Scary Movie” franchise, “Dance Flick” and his current spooky satire, ‘A Haunted House.’
Marlon Wayans is the youngest of the Wayans comedy clan, which includes Keenan Ivory, Shawn, Damon and Kim. After attending Laguardia High School of the Performing Arts and Howard University, he joined his rising star siblings in the family business of comedy. After appearing in the film “Mo’ Money” (1992) – written by brother Damon – he joined the cast of Fox TV’s “In Living Color” (1990-94) produced by Keenen Ivory and Damon. He morphed from there to “The Wayans Bros” (1995-99), a sitcom on The WB. In 2000, he took a dramatic turn with a notable...

The South Australian Film Corporation (Safc) is set to put its $1.1 million FilmLab scheme on hiatus and close several smaller development programs.

While January holds the potential for a fun action flick with Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand and recycled horror with Texas Chainsaw 3D, there's also some raunchy comedy coming your way, even if it does look dreadful. A Haunted House is a parody of found footage films like Paranormal Activity, The Devil Inside and The Last Exorcism written by and starring Marlon Wayans, and a red band trailer for the film is here. There's plenty of sex jokes, and while I'll admit to being amused by David Koechner quoting Samuel L Jackson in Snakes on a Plane (since he also starred in that film), this just looks gross. Here's the red band trailer for Michael Tiddes' A Haunted House from Vibe (via ComingSoon): Michael Tiddes (Dance Flick) directs A Haunted House written by Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie) and Rick Alvarez (producer of Scary Movie 2 and Little Man...

It's been almost a decade since the Wayans Brothers have been involved in the Scary Movie series, having moved on to bigger and better things like White Chicks, Little Man and Dance Flick. However, apparently Marlon Wayans has been itching to deliver another cutting edge parody of the latest wave of horror flicks and now he is striking out on his own with a new comedy called A Haunted House. It's basically just Scary Movie under a different name, but it's aiming to beat the upcoming Scary Movie 5 to theatres by at least a few months. Wayans co-wrote the script and stars in the movie along with Nick Swardson and Cedric the Entertainer. Based on the trailer, it appears to be drawing the most inspiration from Paranormal Activity, but it also spoofs other recent found footage movies like The Last Exorcism and The Devil Inside. As you might expect, fart jokes and stoner humour abounds.
