    Love Story-cum-international crime thriller

This otherwise mediocre film (feels like a TV movie) has some campy and unusual features nonetheless. Set in Rio de Janeiro, it features now famous star Patricia Pillar (of Oscar nominee O QUATRILHO). She's the film's lead character, an international flight attendant involved not only in a dangerous love relationship, but a risky criminal smuggling rink as well. The film also features Rogeria, Brazil's most famous Drag Queen for the last thirty years, as a female killer. Love, crime, natural beauty, murder, mafia wars are all prominent in this story. It suggests to confirm a Brazilian damnation: "The Sampaku Curse, or Maldition." This, of course is the film's title. Worth a look if it's on late at night.

In a smuggling-crime plot came up the femme fatale Patricia Pillar!!

What's coming next in my assessment process? A Maldição do Sanpaku made in 1991 which I'd watched in early 1995, it was released in VHS format in the nineties only, so I've to appeal to my all-weather friend Youtube where has a fine print available there recorded from Canal Brasil a sort of closed channel just allowed for subscribers specifically for Brazilian productions only with a large catalogue spanning since late forties until nowadays.

The picture has a hard influence of American cinema, as a matter of fact the story starting in America where a Brazilian smuggler Gafanhoto (Roberto Bomtempo) by request of his boss named as Velho (Sergio Britto) smuggling a valuable green gem from there thru a stewardess Cris (Patricia Pillar) to Rio de Janeiro, actually Gafanhoto and Cris have been a hot romantic affair, when suddenly Cris decides for a break, taken aback the blind and enraged Gafanhoto is willing steal the gem for highest offer aiming for has Cris back.

Meanwhile from out of nowhere Gafanhoto stumbles with an old school mate Poeta (Felipe Camargo) at beach, later hunted by the angry Velho the crook Gafanhoto involves a faltering Poeta to help him when he was wounded by shot by Velho's thugs, as expected Gafanhoto is killed a hitwoman (Rogeria), then the nasty Velho demands just a week to Poeta finds out the whereabout of missing stone, otherwise he'll kill him, then came up a meeting between the gorgeous suspicious Cris and Poeta, among a fearful moment a sexy night is unavoidable, nonetheless Poeta stays in razor's edge due the time in running out.

The mysterious girl Patricia Pillar in a peak of her beauty has a flawless acting as femme fatale usually in Noir pictures, she gave a slight impression of dubious character for the viewers at first sight, another remarkable performance was Roberto Bomtempo on those usual carioca's mannerism, just overcame by the veteran actor Sergio Britto, the leading casting Felipe Camargo doesn't disappoint at all, well the eye-candy Pillar was so bountiful in some breathtaking sexy sequences, nothing bad for a Brazilian picture, worthwhile a look.

    Thanks for reading.
