Quite an ordinary fare but enjoyable throughout

The film is pretty much a remake of Deewar, where one brother is a criminal and the other a policeman, only that this film casts a woman in the role of the police officer. The film is just another Mithun Chakraborty film, and those who have seen his many films will know what we're talking about. As a fan of Mr. Chakraborty myself, I don't mean it as a bad thing, because like most films with him in the lead it's very watchable even if it's not exactly great in terms of filmmaking. Chakraborty moves through the film with elan. The role of the sister is played by Deepa Sahi, shortly before she became famous for her steamy scene with Shah Rukh Khan. Mandakini and Tanuja play the typical love interest and mother, respectively. Shakti Samanta does a good job directing the film. The regular shortcomings, including absurd action and some other parts which do not ring true, do not take away from the film's entertainment value. Some nice songs composed by maestro R. D. Burman also do good. A nice Hindi Mirthun flick (yes, it's almost a genre in and of itself).

Mithunda and Deepa Sahi in a Deewaar rehash!!

    Dushman review :

Veteran director Shakti Samanta's last film Dushman was a watered down remake of Yash Chopra's Deewaar (1975) where Mithun Chakraborty played Amitabh's anti hero while in a gender reversal, Deepa Sahi became the honest police inspector like Shashi Kapoor in the original.

Mithunda is called Bullet - a petty thief turned gangster - who works for smuggler Kalicharan (Sadashiv Amrapurkar). Unknown to him, Kalicharan is responsible for jailing his father (Alok Nath) and rendering his family homeless.

A routine Mithunda actioner of late 80s; Dushman was aimed at his fan club. In one scene, he even refers to himself as the Royal Bengal Tiger.

"Maya Memsaab" Deepa Sahi had the lengthier role than main lead Mandakini (who was restricted to couple of songs only). Deepa looked smart in cop uniform and pitched in a sincere performance. Sadashiv Amrapurkar, saying BU-LETT in his typical Marathi accent, is memorable.

I had seen Dushman on VHS at the time of its release and liked it. His films may be good or bad but Mithunda is always great!!

    Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

    Very Ordinary

Dushman Directed By Shakti Samanta is A Family / Action Drama. Script is Simple With Very Less To Offer. Screenplay Has Nothing New As It Follows The Lost & Found Theme. Direction is Not Great Either, Dialogues & Action is Fine.

Movie Starts With Rakesh Alias Bullet(Mithun Chakraborty) Who is A Petty Thief, Wanna Start A Fresh Life After Being in Prison For A While. But Again He Somehow Joins Criminal Kalicharan(Sadashiv Amrapurkar) Gang And Works For Him. He Has An Affair With Laxmi (Mandakini). One Day, He Meets His Lost Mother(Tanuja) & Sister Geeta(Deepa Sahi), And Now They Live Together.

Roopchand(Alok Nath) Along With Jeet Singh(Ranjeet) Are Competitor Of Kaalicharan . Geeta Becomes Police Officer & Comes To Know About Bullet & Co. After A Few Interesting & Melodramatic Sequences It Finally Ends.

Acting Wise, Mithun is Good With Action & Dialogues. Mandakini Does Well As Laxmi. Alok Nath, Sadashiv Amrapurkar & Ranjeet Are Fine in Negative Characters. Deepa Sahi is Pathetic.

Music By R.D. Burman is Average. "Hoton Pe Tumne Pyar Likha Hai" By Amit Kumar & Sadhana Sargam is The Best Compostion.
