    Dante according to Freud.

This marks the beginning of a great series of slashers, which was originally conceived as another installment of Resident Evil. And to be honest, when the game really reminds you in places that it was conceived as Resident Evil, you realize how ridiculous it is and how it wasn't mature enough to be considered a great slasher game to the core. The boss battles here are not as difficult as the battle with the camera, and the story itself is just a token addition that develops into segments that only make you cringe. But in terms of design and its unusual approach to gameplay at the time of its release, it was truly an outstanding work of art, but nowadays it looks radically outdated and unnecessary against the backdrop of the subsequent parts of the series, which showed in true form how Devil May Cry should feel in all its glory... And no, I'm not talking about the second installment (although we'll get to that).

Loved the character of Dante, just certain aspects of the game I did not like.

I liked how the story started out, and I liked the character of Dante right away. A dude with a big sword and dual guns, what isn't there to like? The fighting was rather fast and furious too, so what exactly are my complaints exactly? Well I did not care for the setting for one thing. The game starts out in a regular city, in a back alley and almost immediately shifts to an old castle. I don't know, Dante fit the city better, I would have enjoyed fighting in a more urban environment instead of the old Gothic one. Then there are the enemy characters...they are not all that different from one another. You have maybe four or five types you fight throughout the game and then the bosses. I need a bit more variety to be honest. Then there are the pointless underwater scenes I did not care for either. The game is also hard, so hard I had to play on easy which was to easy. Still, the game was fun as controlling Dante was fun and the fighting fun. I loved getting the grenade launcher late in the game. The story was okay, like I said I would have rather used this character in the city, granted there it would have been a bit like "Constantine", but hey that would be good in my book. So it is a good enough challenge and rather fun, I just hope the sequels are better.

    Fantastic early PS2 game.

An absolute gem of a game. The gothic and demonic tone and style of this game reminds me of something that would be plucked out of a Clive Barker story. The combat is fluid as all get out and the story is pretty good, too; what keeps you here is the combat and environments, though.

    8/10 I recommend

Apart from the voice acting so bad it's perfect, the simple but effective combat, the bosses either being unfair or pretty good and the camera but overall dmc 1 is a classic that should be remembered fondly for years. Although a remake would be nice. Without getting into spoilers the story is pretty good it's simple and is barely the focus. The main focus is the gameplay which is the main gimmick. As a revolutionary hack and slash it features a mixture of melee and guns combat. For the time it was simple and great but there is one problem, the camera is sometimes painful. Also the music is perfect. Tldr 8/10 I recommend.

    Please hurry with the movie!

It seems Hollywood can't avoid the craze with adapting video games into feature length films with kick ass effects involved. . .

Okay so we've been given films like Mortal Kombat 1 & 2 and Resident Evil are strong justifications with comic books already firmly establishing close ties with dominating the big screen (i.e. Blade, X-Men, The Crow, Spiderman and Matrix).

The game is more than what any typical game playing die-hard fan could wish for: stunning graphics, killer moves and one beautiful gorgeous looking babe named Trish. But then again it's only a game or is it?

Bring on the movie, that's all I'm concerned with right now. Just hope someone like Mark Dacascos could be considered for the lead role as the character Dante.

For the meantime anyone a fan of Resident Evil will not be dissapointed at all as this is "must-own" video game of the millennium.

The game started life as Resident Evil 4. After realizing that the game was beginning to take on its own unique style, the decision was made to abandon the Resident Evil premise and develop a new background as story for the game. The Original title was "Devil May Care" after the saying.
