Fun Film for Adults and Kids

Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders (2000)

    *** (out of 4)

Fast and fun feature has Scooby, Shaggy and the gang breaking down in the desert so they walk to the nearest town where they hear about strange lights and cattle missing. Soon the gang is going up against some alien invaders and this is where the mystery begins. SCOOBY-DOO AND THE ALIEN INVADERS is certainly an entertaining little film that offers up a pretty good mystery, a nice story and certainly some very funny moments throughout. I think this one benefits from a short (71-minutes) running time and the fact that it really doesn't have any boring moments or down time. I think the best thing about the film are the actual aliens. I thought the animation throughout the entire thing was extremely good but the look of the aliens was quite good and it was a joy whenever they were in action. Another major plus is that the mystery itself is good. This here certainly isn't going to win any Scooby Snacks for greatness but I found it easy to get caught up in solving the mystery. The vocal work by all was good as usual and this here even threw in some romance with Shaggy and Scooby. The film's best critic was my three-year-old who was constantly having laughing fits throughout the picture. He was obviously having a blast with it. He loves everything Scooby but I've never seen him react so positively to a film.

    Amusing Scooby cartoon

On a trip across the desert, the gang encounter some sort of craft and, panicking, crash the van. As they wait for help Scooby and Shaggy claim to have seen aliens. Stuck in the town waiting for repairs to be done they investigate an old man's claims of abductions. Meanwhile Shaggy and Scooby fall in love with a local hippy girl and her dog and follow her to investigate a fenced off government area of the desert and the bank of satellite dishes.

One of a series of new Scooby Doo films, this doesn't distinguish itself in any particular way but does continue to give us what the others did – a more aware version of the old cartoon without going the whole hog and filling it with knowing adult gags. The plot (as with most of the new cartoons) involve real beasts rather than just relying on comedy monsters – these aliens are a little unsettling at times, but the comedy is still good for kids.

Scooby doing impressions is a good one, but there are also some self-aware gags that work well for those who grew up watching the old cartoon series – the best bit being where the line `and we would have got away with it etc' is cut short by an impatient policeman as the film moves on! Some of the musical numbers are a little weak but just about contain enough funny lines to cover for the poor music. Shaggy's love subplot is not as strong as it could have been but is still an amusing side of the film.

Overall this is probably not for adults but can be watched by them as long as they are fans of the series. The gentle comedy is good and the plot is farfetched but well put together (although I had major reservations at the end). If you're planning to watch it then I imagine you already know you're in the mood for that type of humour and, as long as you are, this is quite an enjoyable little movie.

Beautiful Animation & Great Entertainment For All.

I love Scooby-doo & like most i grew up watching him & the Awesome mystery team & i found the best of the Scooby-doo direct-to-video movies are, Zombie Island & The Witch's Ghost & The Alien Invaders, Those three earlier movies had the best animation in my opinion & the colours pop off the screen with vibrancy.

There's a cosy Nostalgic feel to just getting cosy & making a nice cup of coffee & watching a Scooby-doo movie. The best three movies of the whole franchise are the first three made by a Japanese animation studio which are: Zombie Island, The Witch's Ghost & Alien Invaders. The Ultimate Scooby-doo Trilogy.

I had a dvd boxet with those three together & watched them all countless times. Love them.

I liked the old fashioned B-movie vibe of this movie & the Awesome B-movie music that accompanied & made the atmosphere feel exciting & full of mystery.

Scooby-doo & the gang get mixed up with a mystery involving Aliens & that's all you need to know .

Simply a great Scooby-doo animated movie.

I definitely recommend: The Witch's Ghost, Zombie Island, Camp Scare, Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog.

    Are those glazed?

'Scooby Doo And The Alien Invaders (2000)' is perhaps the least iconic of Jim Stenstrum's 'Scooby Doo' movies, and it's also arguably the least successful. However, it's still an entertaining and endearing experience that makes good use of its well-established characters. Though the central mystery is a bit weak and its outcome is (mostly) fairly easy to predict, the piece moves at a suitably fast pace and even subverts some of the expectations its audience may have after seeing its two predecessors. It's filled with charming and chuckle-worthy moments, mostly surrounding the things Scooby Doo and the self-proclaimed 'Shag man' do in an effort to get laid. In all seriousness, though, it's quite heartwarming to see our usually laid-back (or scared witless) heroes fall head over heels in love. An enjoyable, though slightly strained, mid-point musical sequence highlights Shaggy's fairly immature romantic fantasies, and it's surprisingly wholesome to see the duo attempt to protect their newfound friends in the film's cave-based finale. It does feel as though the rest of Mystery Inc. Are relegated to the sidelines for most of the piece, but they still have their moments to shine and are as iconic as ever. Ultimately, this is a consistently fun and occasionally funny animated adventure. It's perhaps the least successful of Stenstrum's four 'Scooby Doo' features, but it's still an enjoyable experience from beginning to end. 7/10.

    • Trivia
When Shaggy and Crystal are viewed from a distance walking together and talking, you can hear him telling her the story about his first encounter with the Witch's Ghost from Scoubidou et le Fantôme de la sorcière (1999).
    • Goofs
The first time Scooby crawls through the small space on the bottom of the fence while he and Shaggy were chasing the jackalope, he gets stuck since he's too big to fit through it. After running while stuck in the hole for a few seconds while Shaggy climbs over the fence, Scooby pops out of the other side of the hole. The second time he crawls through it to follow Amber, he doesn't, but on the third time, he crawls through it again, he gets stuck again. Scooby pulls himself hard for a few seconds and manages to pull himself through with a pop. Amber fits well through it, but not Scooby.

Crystal: [after she and Amber have revealed themselves to be aliens and changed back] I have another confession...

Norville 'Shaggy' Rogers: Like, I know. You're not a government agent.

Crystal: Well actually, we are. But not from Earth. We were sent by our world to investigate signals from your planet.

Amber: [a dog] Transmitted from the south station.

Norville 'Shaggy' Rogers: Zoinks! You can talk?

      Amber: Yes, quite well!

Norville 'Shaggy' Rogers: Like, dig that, Scoob! A talking dog!

      Scooby Doo: [surprised] Ryeah!

Fred Jones: [dryly, to Velma and Daphne] Imagine that.
