An americanized version of the first game

"Dino Crisis"(9/10) was a brilliant game for the Playstation, which was created by the geneous behind the fabolous "Resident Evil"-series. Many people called "Dino Crisis" for "Resident Evil" with dinosaurs instead of zombies, and they were probably right. After playing "Dino Crisis 2" for about 5 or 10 minutes, you`ll probably have killed the same amount of dinosaurs that you killed in the whole last game. That is why I think of "Dino Crisis 2" as an americanized version of the last game, because it is too much action and very little tension, puzzles and horror, which made the first game so good. "Dino Crisis 2" is still very good game, but different from the first game, and I know that many of you out there will prefer "DC2" to "DC1", because of the increased amount of action.

    8/10

Definitely better than the first game

Now, this is the game I wish the first Dino Crisis was. In fact, with the exception of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter, this was my favorite dinosaur game of all.

One year after the first game, Dr. Kirks research on Third Energy is seized by the government, but their reckless research efforts result in another time distortion accident that sends the research facility, a military base, and a small town to another time. Now SORT agent Regina and TRAT soldier Dylan Morton travel through time to rescue any survivors and gather data on the Third Energy project.

Instead of a stressful survival horror game riddled with frustrating puzzles, this is a straight up run-and-gun style action game with some arcade elements, such as collecting extinction points from killing enemies or bonus points for avoiding damage. You'll control both Regina and Dylan in different intervals of the game, both characters having different weapons and abilities.

The dinosaurs are much weaker, and you'll slaughter them by the hundreds to rack up points to spend on equipment, such as health items, new weapons, ammunition, and armor. Your armament is even bigger and more lethal than ever before, allowing you to wield weapons such as a machine gun, flamethrower, anti-tank rifle, and even rocket launchers.

The graphics and controls have improved since the first game, with more fluid character and enemy animation, even outside the FMVs, but there are Resident Evil styled fixed camera angles due to the size of the game and higher number of enemies.

The environment is much more diverse and colorful, ranging from lush jungles, to a research facility with an underwater segment, to a ruined city. New enemy dinosaurs have entered the fray, such as Allosaurus, Triceratops, Mosasaurus, and one particular dinosaur that I won't spoil for you.

The action-based soundtrack was great, especially the final boss music "Anti-Satellite Attack" with its epic sounding organ notes. The sound effects were cool too, from weapons to the dinosaurs.

Overall, this is a great Capcom classic and a must play for fans of both Capcom and dinosaur games.

    Most replays.

This is probably my most replayed game ever!

Just based on that i can't give it anything less than 10/10, the old sticker says i paid 16,90 euros for it (that is somewhere close to 20 dollars) and that money has been paid me back many times but the sheer fun and excitement of playing this game.

The campaign if very short, like 4 hours, but it doesn't matter - the story is very good for such a short campaign as well, it doesn't necessarily make that much sense, but this game is mainly focused on an action movie like experience featuring dinosaurs and sci-fi.

Even though the graphics are now very old and clunky looking, i still enjoy the game, and i still maybe get a little anxious about the water level, LMAO! in general the game is not that much of "horror" game, but the water level feels very suspenseful, and frustrating too to be honest.

Although i do think that dinosaurs are just as fitting for horror games as zombies are, maybe even more? dinosaurs are fast and have sharp fangs and large claws, zombies are basically just humans on crack or something ( i don't use crack so it was just an example) .

    • Trivia
When you beat the game, you will unlock two special game modes. One is called "Dino Colosseum", which is a survival mode game where you can pick a character with their own set of weapons and fight dinosaurs from small to biggest as the round progresses. The other is "Dino Duel", where you can choose a dinosaur of your choice and fight another in tournament style.
    • Goofs
In the prologue, it is mentioned that only one year has passed since the incident occurred in the first game. However, when Dylan retrieves memo from medical room it is reported that 10 years has passed since the "overdrive" incident transports them into another time. Whether it is time dilation, or fictional physics errors, is never mentioned throughout the game.
