For years I have searched for a video of the standup comedian Rick Reynolds "Only the Truth is Funny" that aired years ago on HBO or Showtime. I've written NUMEROUS letters to HBO, Showtime, NBC, CBS, ABC, etc., and no one has been able to help me locate or even have knowledge of this video. I would GREATLY APPRECIATE any help on locating a copy of this video. I thank you in advance for your assistance.
ONLY THE TRUTH IS FUNNY, just like all the others, I've been looking for it for a LONG TIME!!! I loved it the first time I saw it and I haven't forgotten it in all this time. Beside enjoying quick, smart, funny stuff I like passing it on, everyone I recommended it to loved it too. I'm so surprised I haven't been able to find it, I'd love to see it again. It makes you think. It makes you laugh. It makes you cry. Does anyone remember how rare that is nowadays?! If anyone out there has it, please, please let us share. I'm totally for buying DVDs, but what do you do when it's not available?! Note to Mr Rick Reynolds: thank you, thank you, you hit a cord here and helped me get over some of the bad stuff in my life...thank you again!
Hands down one of the best one man shows of all time, taking the audience on a sometimes shocking ride of highs and lows but never forgetting he's there to make you laugh. I enjoyed sharing this gem with family and friend's for years, and like most of you, I have also been hoping for it to be released on DVD since the original VHS copy I recorded when it aired was lost to time. I can't tell you how pleased I was to recently learn that it had finally become available. I would love to share with you where and how to get a copy of this hard to find item but since that would be against the guidelines I can only recommend that fans of his work check out Rick's website sometime... for it is also very amusing.
Rick Reynolds tells you the story of his life. How he grew up in a dysfunctional family. The death of his father in a drowning accident when Rick was only a small child. How his mother became depressed and later her marriage to an abusive alcoholic. After years of suffering. The marriage finally ended and his mother married another man. Rick's new stepfather seemed perfect until it was discovered Rick's stepfather was a bank robber. He became morose and suicidal during his college years, then he become a stand-up comic. Still fighting depression and numerous problems, Rick married a woman named Lisa and decided to leave L.A. He move to Petaluma, California. After a thorough review of his life and he found that he had assemble a sad but very funny story. So he created this one man show originally aired on showtime.
This show is very funny, it had lots of heart, here was a human being who has suffered greatly but he manages to get through life as best as he can. With his humor intact. I've had all the cable channels for the last 19 years. I have seen all the comedians and their shows. This is the only show I would really like to get on DVD and put in my collection. You can not get this show anywhere, in any format. I can only hope that someday they will put it out there for us to buy.
My rating 9 1/2 out of 10 stars.

This may be the funniest one-man show of all time-- maybe the funniest ANYTHING of all time. I don't know anyone else who's seen this and disagreed. It's a crime this has never been re-released. From the title right down to the last minute Reynolds pours out his heart, his life, for all to see and for all to laugh at. How courageous is that? It's gut-wrenching and hilarious all at once-- it's hilarious in large part BECAUSE it's gut-wrenching. The Woody Allens of the world can only dream of being half this funny (specifically in Allen's case, make that a hundredth). It's hard to believe it's been 15 years since this aired. Please re-release this! Note: The DVD was available for a time from Reynold's own website, but apparently no longer. Nonetheless, fans of Rick's may do well to look for him on Youtube.
