Kamal Haasan completes 60 years in films
A three-day gala is scheduled to take place from November 7 to 9 in Chennai and in Kamal Haasan's hometown Paramakudi to mark the veteran actor-filmmaker's completing 60 years in Indian cinema.

As part of the celebrations, Kamal will unveil the statue of his mentor, writer and director Shri. K. Balachandar.

Superstar Rajinikanth is likely to join the event.

The details about the gala have been released by Raaj Kamal Films International, the production and distribution company founded and headed by Kamal Haasan.

The actor-filmmaker entered the film industry when he was just three. He acted as a child artiste in the 1960 Tamil film "Kalathur Kannamma", for which he won the President's Gold Medal. Since then he has featured in over 200 films in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam languages.

The 15th Mumbai Film Festival will bestow its Lifetime Achievement award on French filmmaker Costa-Gavras and actor Kamal Haasan.

Gavras is best known for his political thrillers, such as the Best Foreign Language Oscar-winner Z (1969); Missing (1982), for which Gavras won the Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) Oscar; The Little Apocalypse (1993) and Amen (2002).

The Greek-born Gavras has also been conferred with the title of French Knighthood. Since 2007, he has also been serving as the President of Cinémathèque Française, one of the world’s largest film archives.

“We are honored to confer the Lifetime Achievement Award to Costa-Gavras. His films have been loved and celebrated by millions of cinema lovers worldwide. We are humbled that he has agreed to receive this award,” said Shyam Benegal, Chairman, Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (Mami).
