Jait Re Jait

Nagya is the village drummer. He dreams of seeing Lord Shiva, who resides in the mountains close to the village. One hill which is shaped like the Lord Shiva's Lingam, is worshipped by the villagers. That hill is covered by many beehives. The villagers believe that the beehives form a necklace around Lord Shiva's neck and the Queen bee resides in the centre. Only a righteous person will see the Queen bee. Nagya inspires to be that person.

The tribal settings are very well emulated by the dress, dialect and customs. The acting is good. I don't have any words to describe Smita Patil's look in this film.

This film had won the National award in 1978. But all I could find was a bad print on YouTube which was not even in the proper aspect ratio. Really sad.

Well, it certainly is a hatke movie if compared with the usual Tamasha movies or Sachin Ashok Saraf, Lakshya type slapstic comedies which were on peak at that time.

Though the basic plot was nothing inspiring the powerful cast including Agase, Patil, Deshpande, Phule etc. made it worth watching.

But what makes this movie really stand out is the music.

I wont hesitate to say that this was the first movie which had a type of music never considered for Marathi Movies. Warli, adivasi, katkari folk music received its firstever recognition and acceptance from this movie.

All credit goes to the great Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar and his team of singers including none other that Latadidi.

To sum up, its a movie which you would watch once or twice but the music will not fade away for years.

One of the rare gems Marathi movie industry has produced.. The combination of director Jabbar Patel and actor Mohan Agashe who had done an excellent job in th e play Ghashiram Kotwal have produced another gem.

Everything about the movie is perfect. The cinematography could not have been better. However the best thing about the movie is its music which is still on everyone's tongue. Not only are the songs brilliant with brilliant lyrics by Na. Dho. Mahanor, but the music also fits perfectly with the movie. The movie is almost a semi-musical.

I especially liked the way the director has shown the adivasis. Except the few actors, all the other juniors are actual adivasis. Amongst the Marathi movies I have seen I would say this one is the best.

An excellent screen-adaptation of go.nii. danDekar's excellent novel. Smita Patil has put in one of her better performances. Sulabha Deshpande and Nilu Phule come in a close second. Mohan Agashe could have done better. Music is way above average and dialogs likewise. Cinematography could have been better.

During a time when most Marathi movies were shackled by the 'winning' formula, this movie showed that good movies can be made given the will to make one.

This movie is absolutely worth the national awards and recognition it received.

I always get a special experience while watching cult classic hollywood films. That's because their CGI and VFX etc. Make no mistake, this movie takes you to the whole new (or old perhaps) world without any special effects, just on the basis of mind blowing story, engaging screenplay and splendid acting. I literally lived 2 hours in 1977. And music omg....Please help me take all those sound out of my mind... Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar composed a heaven for ears...Too good songs man... I'm on a musical weed now....! This movie is a must watch for everyone.
