Reese Witherspoon’s Legally Blonde experience has apparently helped her beyond establishing her as a pop-culture icon. The Big Little Lies actress recently claimed in an interview that the movie helped her power through a long trial when she was called on jury duty.

While she initially did not want to be a part of that, by the time the trial was in full flow, she became completely invested in it. The hilarious part, however, was that she was appointed as foreman during the trial, as the others believed she truly went to a law school. Although that only increased her worries, in true Elle Woods fashion, she slayed it.

1990s teen hit Clueless has been brought to the stage of London’s West End by the film’s original writer and director Amy Heckerling, who has focused on keeping the 90s theme integral to the story.
Heckerling told BBC News that she has “no interest in being modern,” and has stuck closely to the original story. The 1995 film, inspired by Jane Austen’s novel Emma and starring Alicia Silverstone as lead character Cher and took $88million at the box office. It was credited with inspiring similar teen school dramas including Mean Girls, Gossip Girl and Legally Blonde.
And she admitted neither the original film nor the musical are documents of real LA life for most citizens. Heckerling told the BBC she wished the original film had been a musical, because “”there were natural moments in the script where characters could have sung.”

“Elle,” the “Legally Blonde” prequel series, has found Elle’s mom.
June Diane Raphael has joined the Amazon Prime Video project as Eva, joining the previously announced Lexi Minetree as Elle. The series follows a younger Elle Woods, who was played by Reese Witherspoon in the two “Legally Blonde” films, finding her footing in high school.
“Elle” is created by Laura Kittrell, who is an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon is executive producing the show through her Hello Sunshine banner, alongside Lauren Neustadter and Marc Platt. The first two episodes will be directed by Jason Moore. “Elle” is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios.
The original 2001 “Legally Blonde” film was a box office success, grossing over $140 million worldwide. Its sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde,” was released in 2003. A direct-to-video third film came out in 2009, which Witherspoon produced but did not star in.

Jennifer Coolidge wants to see more "small" movies being made. The 63-year-old actress made her name when she starred as Stifler's Mom in 'American Pie' and then appeared in now-classics like 'Legally Blonde' but as she takes on the role of the ex-wife of a criminal in 'Riff Raff', insisted that there should be more films with a limited amount of cast members. She told ScreenRant: "I hope there are more of these kinds of films. Jennifer Coolidge may be “envious as hell” that she’s not in “The White Lotus” Season 3, but she is more than happy her character Tanya at least doesn’t have to deal with Jon Gries’ Greg.
Tanya and her husband Greg had a tumultuous marriage, leading to Greg seemingly hiring his former lover Quentin (Tom Hollander) to murder her. Tanya survived the kidnapping, but fell to her death while escaping. Now in Season 3, Gries’ Greg is back at the White Lotus resorts, this time with a new name (Gary) in Thailand. He also has a new girlfriend (Charlotte Le Bon) on his arm. Yet Greg/Gary isn’t the only returning “White Lotus” character: Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), who knew Greg from Season 1, definitely recognizes him…
And Coolidge can’t wait for chaos to ensue.
“Jon Gries has shown up,” Coolidge told Forbes. “I hope he gets it! I hope they do something terrible to him.

The Legally Blonde‘s Dorky David actor Osgood Perkins, is now a celebrated filmmaker and has one of the most wickedly brilliant minds in Hollywood. And if movies like The Monkey and Longlegs are any indication, his imagination knows no bounds, and that is exactly what the industry needs right now. Though he’s been in the industry for years, his name exploded overnight following the success of Longlegs, starring Nicolas Cage.

But rather than taking the mainstream route or diving into superhero films, Perkins is now fully committed to bringing his eerie, unconventional visions to life. And honestly, that’s exactly why fans can’t wait to see what he does next. Here’s what he had to say about his approach and what’s coming up in the years ahead!

Osgood Perkins has guts – literally and metaphorically. The filmmaker knew it wouldn’t work to be precious when adapting “The Monkey,” a short story by Stephen King, hitting theaters Friday. So Perkins held nothing back. “You can’t worry about offending an audience; you can’t focus on honoring it too closely,” he notes. “There’s no pandering going on. There’s no timid storytelling. You have to have the guts to execute it.” He means it physically as well — his effects artists developed objects referred to as “guts cannons” and trucks loaded full of blood to kill people in increasingly gory and creative ways.
It’s a faster pace for Perkins, who has mastered the art of discomfort with slow-burn, atmospheric films like last year’s hit “Longlegs.” And the plot is simple: Theo James stars as twins whose lives have been cursed by the existence of a wind-up toy monkey that,...

Osgood Perkins isn’t necessarily known for his sense of humor, which is a little odd since he co-starred in “Legally Blonde,” a movie which isn’t particularly terrifying. Over the course of four ethereal, severe, haunting horror movies — most recently, last year’s acclaimed hit “Longlegs” — Perkins made a name for himself as one of the most dramatic filmmakers currently in the genre, tackling serious emotional burdens through the lens of the supernatural.
“The Monkey” is not one of those serious, dreary, though mostly brilliant films. It’s a wacky, fast-paced, mostly brilliant comedy. Adapted from a 1980 short story by Stephen King (who also wrote “The Mangler”), the film stars Theo James as identical twins, Bill and Hal, whose lives are ruined by a toy monkey they found in their absentee father’s closet as children. When you wind up the monkey, it plays a drum. When it finishes,...

The Monkey Director Osgood Perkins Doesn't Think Of The Film As A Horror Movie [Exclusive Interview]
Osgood Perkins may be the most quietly unpredictable Hollywood filmmaker working today. Think about it: Prior to 2024, he was a respected if low-profile indie horror director, making his name with singularly dread-filled, offbeat films like "The Blackcoat's Daughter" and "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House." Prior to that, he was a character actor, turning up in supporting roles in films as varied as "Legally Blonde," "Secretary," and 2009's "Star Trek." Even the film that was supposed to be his big A24 horror movie debut, 2020's "Gretel & Hansel," got swallowed up by the Covid-19 pandemic, meaning he was still more of an underground favorite by the time his masterpiece, "Longlegs," was ready to debut.
When that movie blew up the box office last year (thanks in large part to a fantastically effective marketing campaign along with a signature performance from star Nicolas Cage), Perkins seemed to have finally arrived.

Marvel Studios has enlisted a lot of A-List actors for the Multiverse Saga, only for the majority of them to be relegated to one-off appearances in post-credits scenes. We're hoping to see more of them down the line, of course, but is another big name now being lined up to join the MCU?
Many of you may remember Jennifer Coolidge best for her roles in the American Pie and Legally Blonde franchises. In recent years, she's received widespread acclaim for her work in HBO's The White Lotus, winning two Primetime Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe.
Today, scooper @MyTimeToShineH brings word that Coolidge is "being considered for a major role in the MCU." As of now, "It's unclear if she’s had a meeting yet, but they’re interested in meeting with her."
So, it's early days and there's nothing to say the actor will even be interested in boarding the franchise.

As she rose to fame in the ‘90s and became a household name in the 2000s with her iconic role as Elle Woods in ‘Legally Blonde,’ Witherspoon’s business acumen helped her make smart financial moves early on. She even managed to secure a deal in her Legally Blonde contract that allowed her to keep all of Elle’s designer wardrobe, including a massive collection of Jimmy Choo shoes.

9-1-1 may be an action-packed show about first responders in Los Angeles, but at its core, it’s a series about family.
And what goes hand in hand with family? Love.
From romantic love to found family love and everything in between, the series is brimming with so much affection, making the series a hit over the years.

Yes, it’s dramatic and messy at times and throws in some sadness when the occasion calls for it, but one thing the series does well is romance, with various 9-1-1 pairings among some of the best on TV.

Now you know, when Richard Linklater’s “Merrily We Roll Along” film adaptation premieres in about 15 years, it will star Broadway actress Hannah Cruz.
The “Suffs” star has joined the project as Gussie opposite Paul Mescal, Beanie Feldstein, Mallory Bechtel and Ben Platt, TheWrap has learned. Filming will take place over the next two decades, similar to the director’s process for his Oscar-winning movie, “Boyhood.”
Producers include Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Ginger Sledge, Jonathan Marc Sherman, Mike Blizzard and Linklater. Some filming had already taken place as of late 2024, years after Blumhouse first acquired the rights in 2019.
The movie is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s 1981 musical of the same name. The 2023 Broadway revival notably starred Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe.
Cruz was most recently seen in the Tony-winning “Suffs” and is currently attached to the “Big Fish” industry reading led by Patrick Wilson.

Updated, with additional comment: Donald Trump continued his takeover of the Kennedy Center today, as he named loyalist Ric Grenell to serve as interim executive director.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I am pleased to announce that Ric Grenell will serve as the Interim Executive Director of The Kennedy Center. Ric shares my Vision for a Golden Age of American Arts and Culture, and will be overseeing the daily operations of the Center. No More Drag Shows, Or Other Anti-american Propaganda — Only The Best. Ric, Welcome To Show Business!”
There is no executive director position at the Kennedy Center. Deborah Rutter currently serves as president of the arts institution, and it is unclear what her status is. In January, she announced plans to step down at the end of the year.
Grenell served as U.S. ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence in Trump’s first administration.

Prepare to bend and snap once again with perhaps the most iconic lawyer of all time, the one and only Elle Woods! Sadly, we're not talking about the long in-the-works Legally Blonde 3 that still hasn't come to fruition after initially being set for release in May 2020. But Elle will still be returning to our screens in some form very soon thanks to Reese Witherspoon's latest project.
Last May, Prime Video picked up a prequel series called Elle, which travels back in time to follow Witherspoon's famous character in high school. Before she studied fashion merchandising for her undergraduate degree, became a sorority president, and made a name for herself at Harvard Law School, who was Elle Woods when she was a bubbly, precocious teenager?

Reese Witherspoon told Jimmy Fallon Friday night that the planned “Legally Blonde” prequel at Amazon Prime Video is moving ahead nicely, and the actress and producer is currently in the process of reviewing audition tapes for the role of a young Elle Woods.
“It’s so fun to watch,” she told the late-night host. “I just love them all.”
Witherspoon added that the audition process has changed, and the women trying out for the part are essentially creating “mini-movies.” As she put it, “I’m doing such a good job.
