The story follows Brooke (Ridley), who is determined to prove herself worthy of running her father’s hotel empire. She travels to the Philippines to scout a new resort location and meets Ben (Ehrenreich), a charming expatriate pilot who helps her discover the beauty of the country – and a newfound sense of freedom. As love and duty collide, Brooke must choose between the life she’s built and the one she’s only just begun to love.

The Last Resort, a new romantic comedy from the director of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, has found its leads in Star Wars alumni. Released in 2003, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was directed by Donald Petrie and stars Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey in lead roles. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the rom-com was a box office success that made over $177 million on a $50 million budget. Petrie has also directed hit rom-coms such as 1988's Mystic Pizza starring Julia Roberts and 2000's Miss Congeniality starring Sandra Bullock.

1990s teen hit Clueless has been brought to the stage of London’s West End by the film’s original writer and director Amy Heckerling, who has focused on keeping the 90s theme integral to the story.

Heckerling told BBC News that she has “no interest in being modern,” and has stuck closely to the original story. The 1995 film, inspired by Jane Austen’s novel Emma and starring Alicia Silverstone as lead character Cher and took $88million at the box office. It was credited with inspiring similar teen school dramas including Mean Girls, Gossip Girl and Legally Blonde.

Elle, Prime Video’s upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series, has now cast the titular character's mom. The series will explore Elle Woods' formative high school years before she's eventually compelled to attend Harvard Law School. June Diane Raphael has joined the Amazon Prime Video project as Eva, joining the previously announced Lexi Minetree as Elle. The series follows a younger Elle Woods, who was played by Reese Witherspoon in the two “Legally Blonde” films, finding her footing in high school.

“Elle” is created by Laura Kittrell, who is an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon is executive producing the show through her Hello Sunshine banner, alongside Lauren Neustadter and Marc Platt. The first two episodes will be directed by Jason Moore. “Elle” is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios.

The original 2001 “Legally Blonde” film was a box office success, grossing over $140 million worldwide. Its sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde,” was released in 2003. A direct-to-video third film came out in 2009, which Witherspoon produced but did not star in.

Marvel Studios has enlisted a lot of A-List actors for the Multiverse Saga, only for the majority of them to be relegated to one-off appearances in post-credits scenes. We're hoping to see more of them down the line, of course, but is another big name now being lined up to join the MCU?

Amazon MGM Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine have cast Lexi Minetree (The Murdaugh Murders) in the role of “Elle Woods” to lead its upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series.

As Deadline reported exclusively earlier this week, Minetree was one of the finalists competing for the role originally played by Witherspoon in the hit romantic comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003).

Elle follows Elle Woods in high school as we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film.

Creator Laura Kittrell is co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. Reese Witherspoon, Lauren Neustadter, Lauren Kisilevsky, and Marc Platt also serve as executive producers.

President Trump said Wednesday that he’d been “unanimously” elected to lead the board of the Kennedy Center, completing his takeover of the Washington, D.C. cultural center.

The two have emerged as finalists in an extensive casting process that saw dozens of young actresses audition for the potentially star-making part that famously catapulted Witherspoon into the ranks of Hollywood’s A-list after she portrayed the character as an adult in the hit romantic comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003).

Now you know, when Richard Linklater’s “Merrily We Roll Along” film adaptation premieres in about 15 years, it will star Broadway actress Hannah Cruz.

The “Suffs” star has joined the project as Gussie opposite Paul Mescal, Beanie Feldstein, Mallory Bechtel and Ben Platt, TheWrap has learned. Filming will take place over the next two decades, similar to the director’s process for his Oscar-winning movie, “Boyhood.”

Producers include Blumhouse Productions’ Jason Blum, Ginger Sledge, Jonathan Marc Sherman, Mike Blizzard and Linklater. Some filming had already taken place as of late 2024, years after Blumhouse first acquired the rights in 2019.

The movie is an adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s 1981 musical of the same name. The 2023 Broadway revival notably starred Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe.

Cruz was most recently seen in the Tony-winning “Suffs” and is currently attached to the “Big Fish” industry reading led by Patrick Wilson.

Reese Witherspoon told Jimmy Fallon Friday night that the planned “Legally Blonde” prequel at Amazon Prime Video is moving ahead nicely, and the actress and producer is currently in the process of reviewing audition tapes for the role of a young Elle Woods.

“It’s so fun to watch,” she told the late-night host. “I just love them all.”
