When the completed film was put before the military commission to be vetted, it emerged that the director had been arrested at the time of Liberation for collaboration, as had the director of photography, Antoine Pée. Permission for distribution of the film was withdrawn in January 1946, sparking a long controversy. The allegation that this director had collaborated with the Germans at an artistic level whilst head of the Verviers Opera was contested on the grounds that his case had been dismissed due to lack of evidence; nevertheless, his name was removed from the credits for the final release of the film.
