Wishmaster 4

I see that most other reviewers of this series seem to rate the third one as the worst. And for the most part they're probably right, not that the fourth installment is much better. It's got all the same problems as its predecessor: horrible acting, boring subplots that go nowhere, almost no action to speak of, yet somehow it's not quite as aggressively dull. This time around we have some schlub playing the Djinn in disguise instead of Sean Connery's son, though it's still the same guy in make-up, for all the good that does. He's still going on and on about "the prophecy", and now even has phantom genies showing up to tell him to get a move on with his quest. There's also a bizarre bit of contrivance where some other immortal being shows up just so something can happen. In conclusion, still awful, just not most awful.

This film is a far better example of a sequel than a lot of other straight to video sequels. Although this is not "Citizen Kane" by any means it is an entertaining and well acted movie, in most respects. Personally, i was impressed by the performance of Michael Trucco playing the human face of the Djinn. His voice in several scenes was an interesting tribute to Andrew Divoff. His performance far surpasses Chris Connery from the third installment. The female lead is sexy, and not untalented. And for the first time since the original, the story is different. What people fail to realize is this is an anthology film series, the others who reviewed this flick keep comparing John Novak's Djinn to Andrew Divoff's original performance. He is not the same Djinn, he is not meant to be the same Djinn. The Djinn both singular and plural are a race of beings created after the angels but before man. There are more than one of them out there. Another factor to consider is that this is the fourth installment of the series, as a writer, director and actor in this film, you inherit three films worth of storyline and baggage, and with the shrunken budget, you have very little to work with. The story has originality, the film is fast paced, it contains some humor and interesting wish fullfillment, and it has new characters and a new dimension to the Djinn mystique. It's a good flick, and i suggest it to all Wishmaster fans. Just keep an open mind.

Since the third wish is never granted, or the Djinn dies before, I thought that this would be awesome because we finally get to see what happens when the prophecy is fulfilled. But I was so wrong. The prophecy wasn't even fulfilled, so the title is pretty much wrong.

Out of 90 minutes, this has about 15 of unnecessary sex scenes which don't really add anything to the story. Not that I hated it, but it just wasn't needed and the time could've been spent on the story, like the Hunter thing, which I had no idea from where and why he came.

Another bad thing was the special effects. They were just awful. I mean, this movie was made 4-5 years ago and it was like watching an 80s horror flick. Nightmare on Elm Street had better special effects than this load of rubbish.

Just stay away from this horrible movie. If you were unlucky enough to waste money on renting the third, don't make an even worse mistake.

Lisa Burnley (Tara Spencer-Nairn) owns a boutique and lives with her beloved boy-friend Sam (Jason Thompson), who became crippled and very bitter after a motorcycle accident. Sam's lawyer Steven Verdel (Michael Trucco) has a crush on Lisa. The Wishmaster possesses Steven's body, and he tries to grant three wishes to Lisa, to release the Djinn demons and start the Armagedon on Earth. However, when she tells Steven: "- I wish I could love you for who you really are.", her third wish is a paradox, since it depends on herself to be granted. The Wishmaster unsuccessfully tries to seduce Lisa.

Although having flaws in the story, "Wishmaster 4: The Prophecy Fulfilled" is a good sequel. I like this character very much, and the two first movies are excellent. In this fourth episode, there is a lack of humor in the deaths of The Wishmaster. Further, there is a character, Hunter, supposed to be good, but the guy decapitates an innocent woman without any reason. Lisa is the "Waker" that will fulfill the prophecy since she found the red stone. One who wakes a djin shall be given three wishes. Upon granting the third, an unholy legion of djins are freed through a doorway between the worlds upon the Earth. The actress Tara Spencer-Nairn has a beautiful body (specially her breasts) and is very gorgeous. Therefore, this film is not as bad as indicated in some IMDb reviews. My vote is six.

Title (Brazil) "O Mestre dos Desejos 4" ("The Wishmaster 4")

Better than #3. Well,that isn't saying much. It still stunk, with gratuitous nudity thrown in to maybe try and save it??? What a joke. The only reason that I saw this after #3 was that a friend rented it and I got to see it for free.

Wishmaster #1 was a 9+

Wishmaster #2 was about a 7

Wishmaster #3 was a big fat 0.

And this one was about a 2, only in part because they got rid of the actor(Connery) who played the Wishmaster in #3, and it was a little bit better storyline, even though they didn't stick to the previous ways that the people received their wishes. Hell, the leading lady may have just as well wished for a steak dinner, a new pair of shoes and a weekend at Bernies for all that mattered to the story.

JUST PLAIN BAD.
