Damon Buffini, a Founding Partner of global investment firm Permira, is to chair the BBC’s Commercial Board, a move that reflects the corporation’s desire to generate more investment from BBC Studios, as it unveils an Annual Plan that includes targets for 25% working class representation and hints at incoming cuts.
Buffini will take on the new role overseeing producer/distributor BBC Studios as well as other commercial activity including facilities operation Studioworks.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle totally get one other.
While the couple came off incredibly poised in their first interview after announcing their engagement on Monday, The Telegraph shared a behind-the-scenes video on Tuesday of the two taking a moment to joke around after the microphones were turned off.
And while Harry and Meghan's talk of their proposal and undercover relationship was incredibly romantic, these candid moments between the two may be even cuter.
The 36-year-old actress adorably makes animated gestures as the two let off some steam, while Harry makes funny faces of his own. The two don't stop laughing, and by all appearances, are more in love than ever.
During Harry and Meghan's interview with Mishal Husain of BBC News, the two revealed they met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend.

In Harry and Meghan's first joint interview together on Monday following their big engagement announcement, the 33-year-old royal reflected on how his mother's relationship would have been with Meghan if she was still alive today.

But then she probably would have been best friends with Meghan. So, it is days like today when I really miss having her around. I miss being able to share the happy news. But the ring and with everything else going on, I'm sure she's with us, jumping up and down somewhere."

It's almost a shame, as we love a good newsreader blunder at Digital Spy – who could forget the time Carol Kirkwood's seaside weather report was ruined by a squatting dog, or the times Nicky Campbell, James Naughtie, Andrew Marr, Jeremy Paxman and Bill Turnbull all dropped the C-bomb live on air?

Anyone watching today's BBC Breakfast will have seen poor Naga Munchetty accidentally confusing James Bond star Daniel Craig with singer songwriter Craig David.
Fortunately, her love of the Re-Rewinder was so strong that she didn't realise she'd made the mistake, with a quick correction following soon after the slip-up.

As you'll see from the clip above, the BBC Breakfast team were talking about the new Bond movie in the aftermath of the film's first public screening yesterday.
Critical response has been decidedly mixed, with many big broadsheets giving the movie five stars, while some weren't so generous, with The Playlist calling it "a film patched together out of endless hastily-drafted script rewrites rather than a cohesive vision".

The BBC is looking to pull BBC Three from the airwaves by February 2016.
In June, the BBC Trust provisionally approved moving the channel online - and now the BBC Executive has published its response.

The BBC Trust had requested a response from the BBC Executive when its provisional conclusions were initially published.
In order to encourage BBC Three viewers to migrate online, the BBC Executive has now pitched running a "temporary transitional channel" from January 2016 until the end of February 2016 alongside BBC Three Online.
It claims this "would be the optimal way of moving audiences over to the online offering and would avoid additional costs in the region of £4m, compared with dual running of a full linear service to April 2016."
It also rejects the possibility of running a reduced BBC Three channel "with fewer hours of first run originated content.

What's a presenter to do in those empty seconds when the camera pans away after their piece to camera?
Chris Mitchell had finished his segment on Sport Today on the BBC News Channel, and was faced with that question.
His answer was to start gesturing as if he was tapping at a tablet - a tablet that clearly was not in his hand.
It follows a clip of Simon McCoy holding onto a pack of A4 printer paper he had mistaken for an iPad.
He had grabbed it shortly before going live to air on BBC News and "didn't have the opportunity to swap the items".
Twitter users picked up on the mistake and linked it to McCoy's blunder:

Even the most seasoned breakfast TV pros make the occasional slip-up live on air. James Naughtie, Andrew Marr, Jeremy Paxman... the list goes on.
Now, Bill Turnbull has joined that list of grandees after an unfortunate twist of the tongue live on BBC Breakfast this morning (July 21), confusing the word "clients" with "c**ts" while reading out an email sent into the programme. Here's your Nsfw moment for today.
Note: The following video contains a word which Ofcom really, really doesn't like
Given Bill's knowing look at the end of the video, perhaps someone senior had a word in his ear.
"Bill unintentionally stumbled over his words and we apologise if any offence was caused," added a spokesperson for the BBC.

"Was I willing to go back into a room with a writer and start work on the same set of characters and the same scenarios as I've been working on for the last three years? The idea made me physically ill," director Sam Mendes said in the spring of 2013, following the billion dollar release of "Skyfall" in the fall of 2012 about returning to helm another installment of the franchise. But it was just a couple of months later when he signed up to helm "Spectre." However, now that his second 007 adventure has wrapped, Mendes says he's really and truly done. "I said no to the last one and then ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends. But I do think this is probably it," he told BBC News. "I don't think I could go down that road again. You do have to put everything else on hold.

The government wants to deter people from turning to online piracy by increasing the amount of time you could spend in jail.
At the moment, the maximum jail penalty is two years but that could jump up to ten years under new plans, reports BBC News.
The new measures are still primarily aimed at those distributing copies, rather than those downloading the files.
"Online or offline, intellectual property theft is a crime," said Peter Ratcliffe, detective chief inspector and head of the police intellectual property crime unit.
"With advances in technology and the popularity of the internet, more and more criminals are turning to online criminality and so it is imperative that our prosecution system reflects our moves to a more digital world."
The new measures are something movie and music companies have been pushing for for some time as they don't believe two years deters the public enough.

One of the last Enigma coding machines that the Nazis used to send encrypted messages during the Second World War has sold at auction.
The device was valued between £50,000 and £70,000 but sold for a whooping £149,000, Sotheby's told BBC News.
It's thought that the recent Imitation Game movie helped boost the Enigma's value, although it doesn't beat the $269,000 (£172,350) paid for another model in April.
The Nazis believed the Enigma machines were impossible to crack with 159,000,000,000,000,000,000 possible settings.
However, British scientist Alan Turing developed a machine of his own, the Bombe, to decipher the codes.
During the war, around 100,000 Engimas were in use but the Nazis destroyed most of them as they retreated.
Turing was played by Benedict Cumberbatch in the 2014 feature, alongside Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance and Mark Strong. Watch a trailer below:...

Unfortunately for a Berkshire-based fancy dress retailer, Disney's force was too strong in a battle for starwars.co.uk and six other Star Wars-related domain names.
Jokers' Masquerade has used the addresses to direct users to its Star Wars fancy dress section for over a decade, but now .uk domain name registry firm Nominet has ruled that they must hand the domains over to Disney.

The around-the-clock news channel is thought to cost the corporation £66.2m a year, and bosses are now looking into its future, The Guardian reports.
The potential move online had apparently already been considered before Chancellor George Osborne announced plans yesterday (July 6) for the BBC to begin covering the cost of free TV licences for over-75s starting in 2018/19.
In a recent speech, BBC director of news James Harding said: "The BBC News channel is the most-watched 24-hour news channel in the UK, reaching 8.6 million adults each week. But like TV news more widely, the channel's reach has fallen over the last three years, as has Sky's.

The day that "Harry Potter" fans have dreamed of for years is finally here: J.K. Rowling announced early Friday morning that there's a new story in the works featuring The Boy Who Lived, and it's set to become a stage play in London next year.
Rowling revealed the news on Twitter, writing that "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" would be a brand-new tale involving an "untold part of Harry's story." Though the author declined to provide any specific details about the play -- other than saying that it is "not a prequel" -- she did say that the work would be "a real treat for fans."
The announcement was timed to the 18th anniversary of the release of "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" (a.k.a. "Sorcerer's Stone" to American audiences) in the U.K., which snowballed into a blockbuster seven-book and eight-movie series that has enchanted fans the world over.
