I wonder if some of this is missing.

"The Mystery Man" is a Snub Pollard comedy short currently posted on YouTube. However, considering that the film is only about five minutes long, I wonder if perhaps it was originally longer and somehow an abbreviated version is what I saw. It's short...as well as short on laughs.

Pollard plays a private detective who is hired to find some stolen money. Soon Snub has somehow found the men and money...but ends up losing them as well as his client. Can he somehow manage to save the day in spite of this?

Noah Young and James Finlayson, longtime Hal Roach supporting characters are among the thieves in this one. It's nice to see them as well as Snub...and parts of the short are funny. But it seems too short...as if a few scenes are missing. Because of this, it's certainly not among the studio's best....but is still worth seeing if you love silent comedy.
