    Only a Fragment Remains

Judging by the description in the booklet accompanying PIONEERS: FIRST WOMEN FILM MAKERS, this is a fairly simple one-reel, one-gag comedy. When a famous tenor comes to a resort, all the lasses abandon their swain to throng the celebrity. The men eventually get their revenge, but that part of the movie is lost. Also lost is the name of the actor playing the celebrity, even though several of the young girls and one or two of the lesser rejected suitors are identified.

The film makers show a lively sense of humor, and there is a nice shot as the men dejectedly march in single file to sit on a wall. I'd like to imagine that the rest of the movie has similar amusing touches, but following the evidence of the film, we really should not speculate.

    This is old business

An amusing little one reel comedy by Lois Weber, in which the jealous suitors lift the tenor's wig from his head by means of a fish-line. This is old business, but brings the usual laugh. - The Moving Picture World, July 4, 1914
