    Depressing even at age 10

I remember watching this live when I was 10 years old. My lasting image of it is of my beloved Danny Kaye dressed in a cruddy wizard costume shilling this little kid about Disneyland and how great it was. I grew up adoring Danny Kaye and seeing him in that goofy costume seemed so beneath him and I sort of shudder thinking about it even now. It's the sort of thing that you'd see a washout doing -- not the unique, successful, and immensely talented Kaye. There was this sense of desperation about it that I sensed even back then. I know he didn't need the money as he was incredibly loaded -- I guess he either just liked to work or he was doing Eisner a favor? But even under all that wizard magic, he was still great.

    Cheesy but watchable camp

It feels like a hasty production, but seems to successfully capture Disneyland of 1980. Danny Kaye looks a little haggard and not really into it, but does a passable job. It's interesting to see all your favorite stars from shows like Dukes of Hazard, Eight is Enough, and others singing and dancing all over Disneyland. I caught it late one night on Vault Disney under 'Walt Disney Presents.'

Danny Kaye puts a spark in this otherwise flat special

I saw this aired on The Wonderful World of Disney a few nights ago...and i must admit that it was a rather boring special, except for the very funny Danny Kaye, most of this was just crappy singing (with preformances by the osmond brothers and michael jackson before he got weird). Danny Kaye portrays About 6 characters (by my count) in explaining to a grandson (played by Joey Lawrence) how much fun disneyland is. Danny also does a few songs and stars with another actor in a funny sketch about two cowboys doing a gunfight. And judging from the crowd response to this sketch...it was safe to say that Danny still had it in 1980. overall, a pretty good showing by Mr.Kaye

    • Trivia
The celebrity guests included both Buddy Ebsen, who was originally cast to play the Scarecrow in Le Magicien d'Oz (1939), ultimately switched to the Tin Man and then replaced in that role as well, and Michael Jackson who had played the Scarecrow in The Wiz (1978). Of course not being a Disney property, the "Oz" connection was not the reason for either star's presence on this special, but rather Ebsen's roles in his Le monde merveilleux de Disney (1954) TV adventures such as a series of "Davy Crockett" specials, and Jackson for his theme park attraction at the time that was part ride and part film, Captain EO (1986).
