      A worth watching movie

I watched this movie several times. It gives goosebumps. Few of the song are good like mela dilon ka aata hai literally travells me back to the past. I don't know about the feeling of mela these days but it gave us great feeling. Comedy is there. Good action sequences. Although the acting done by twinkle khanna and faizal khan disappointed a lot. But, the comedy part was good specially performed by amir khan, johnny lever. Climax is lengthy but good action sequences. I watched this movie several times. It is difficult to believe that this movie failed at box office. Daku Gurjar was not as par gabbar. But is good.

      Really awful!

Acting (including Aamir Khan) is either bad or loud or both. The story is not very gripping. Twinkle Khanna sealed her fate as a failed actor with this movie. She has an amazing complexion. But the rest is plain bad. Despite having superstar parents, she does not have any talent as actor. Faizal Khan is boring. Just showing off muscles does not amount to acting. The villains are unreal and ugly. Blatantly plagiarizing the scene from Dumb and Dumber was done badly (I never thought this was possible!). The mela title song is tooooooo long and repetitive. I wonder what was the director thinking?

The whole movie is a waste of time. Not worth watching.

Songs are the souls of the film...

Mela is well directed by Dharmesh Darshan and it is definitely a classic of 2000 as compared to songs of this movie.

All songs are great specially the title song totally do justice to the film and it is very impactful whenever the situation arises.

Don't know why it was a flop at the box office or why people hate this film because it is well directed as compare to other films that were released in 2000.

Performance of all actors are good none of them disappoint specially TWINKLE KHANNA yes her acting sometime disappoint in some scenes but the way she has maintain her personality and her physic in this film is just great to watch. And whoever her costume designer is there in this film is a total lover of her navel because not a single scene is there in which she hasn't shown her navel in the film.

Aamir & Faisal act brilliantly good specially the Villain is the soul of this film truly brilliant acting by him.

Music, Screenplay, Cinematography all are good and engaging so definitely you can watch if you love 2000 film's taste in Bollywood style....

      Not Worth a Mela!

You'd think that with hits like Raja Hindustani and Lootere in his bag, Dharmesh Dharshan would have a good entertainer in Mela. Not! Mela is really Sholay revisited. Sad to say, it doesn't even come close to Sholay.

So we have Twinkle Khanna, the village belle. Her brother (Ayub Khan) and best friend (Omkar Kapoor) are killed by the evil Gujjar (Tinnu Verma). She swears revenge against the latter. A series of events land her together with Kishen (Aamir Khan) and Shankar (Faisal Khan), whose help she enlists in her fight against Gujjar.

Twinkle truly brings to life the phrase damsel in distress to life! If she's not getting raped, she's plunging down waterfalls and being chased around by Gujjar's men. How she manages to find time to sing God-awful songs is beyond me. She's a truly drastic change from Darshan's usual heroines of substance. And having someone dub over her lines is the worst idea ever. Instead od sounding authentic, it sounds TERRIBLE, like she's overacting! Faisal Khan is a good looker, but it's hard to tell if he can act well. His role is pretty much like his previous one in Madhosh - the silent, stoic type. Aamir, as usual, is in his element as the playful Kishen. If not for him, this film would be lousier than it already is.

None of the songs are worth mentioning. The only one's that pseudo-decent is Dhadkan Mein Tum and that too, is a rip-off the background music of Ramesh Sippy's Andaz. Is Anu Malik THAT desperate?? Twinkle's outfits are awful, by the way! I may be a diehard fan of Aamir Khan, but there's no denying that Mela isn't worth celebrating.

      Not so bad, really.

Gee whiz! So many people I've spoken with are so hard on this movie! I saw this movie and really enjoyed it. Of course, Aamir Khan was great and he did carry a lot of the movie, but every movie I've seen with him he tends to outshine everyone else.

Am I so alone? Was there ANYONE else out there that enjoyed this film? I really thought Faisal was a good fit for the character he played. Clue me in - why is everyone so harsh on this film? Is it because they can't see past Sholay?

I would like to see more movies in this style; of course, there are so many Bollywood movies I might die before I am about to see 1/5 of them, but I always remember to turn off my brain and try to see the film as the directors meant it to be seen; and not to make comparisons. If we tried to compare every actor to Aamir, they'd all be found wanting.

All the Best to everyone; and chin up, Faisal! Someone out here thinks you are a success at what you do. I loved Shankar.

      • Trivia
Mela is considered Aamir Khan's worst film and he himself has said that the film was one of his biggest mistakes in his film career. He said that the film was not the way he wanted it to be at all, and had many disagreements with director Dharmesh Darshan. Most days Aamir became so upset that he would even refuse to film. And when the film released, Aamir was extremely disappointed with the final outcome.
