Chelovechka narisoval ya

This Soviet animation tells the story of a young boy who, excited to be the first child to arrive at the freshly painted school, draws a man on the classroom wall in charcoal. When the teacher blames the vandalism on another student, the boy lets him take the blame. Returning home, his toys come to life, disgusted by his unethical behaviour, and refuse to play with him. Meanwhile, back at the school, the charcoal drawing comes to life and sets out to the right the wrong.

Animated in a cute, traditional style, this film is somewhat reminiscent of Disney's Pinocchio, with its moral tale and fantasy elements. The production values aren't as high as the Disney production, but there's enough invention and fun to overcome the somewhat repetitive message. A solid piece of children's cinema.
