    An extraordinary and unpredictable movie.

Veloma is an extraordinary and unpredictable movie. The director, Marie de Laubier, moves us forward step by step. At the end, we can see in retrospect where the film has been headed all along, but I was never able to predict the next scene from the scene that preceded it.

The acting in this movie is outstanding. Julie Depardieu--daughter of Gerard--is an incredibly skilled actor. (She is also lovely in a French cinema kind of way--totally different from the cookie-cutter Hollywood and TV young female stars.)

Thibault Patell--who plays the role of a young boy of about five or six--is an outstanding child actor.

Guy-Auguste Bolleat, cast as an insurance inspector, is a talented actor and an unlikely hero. (The movie has at least three points of view, so each adult main character in turn could be considered the protagonist.)

This is the type of movie that you hope to see when you take a chance and attend the screening of an unknown foreign film.

This is the type of reward you sometimes get when the film you see is skillfully directed and extraordinarily well acted.

Let's hope this movie finds a distributor, and that many moviegoers find this film!

THIS FILM WAS SEEN AT THE LITTLE THEATRE DURING THE HIGH FALLS (ROCHESTER, NY) FILM FESTIVAL.

THIS FESTIVAL, ALTHOUGH SMALL, SCREENS FILMS OF EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH QUALITY.

DEFINITELY WORTH A SPECIAL TRIP IN 2003!
