An excellent and very realistic film, based on Aralica's book (based on survivors' experiences) and on a true event at the end of WW2.
Drammatic, but true. A piece of Croatian history, which was kept hidden for many years, and it is the proof of non-respect of international war conventions by the Allies. (some say that there is no/little evidence regarding this event, which is untrue, as I myself have done research for my undergraduate thesis on this matter - the documents are well hidden, and difficult to find...)
The main characters are a young couple, and what happens around them are true events. Some scenes are quite explicit, but as in each conflict those who are the "winners" are not always just and correct. The only lack of this film is that it seems more a TV film than a film made for the cinema. Otherwise, an excellent film which would need a bit more of publicity - as this event is still a delicate matter even after 50 years and it seems as an argument better not spoken about.

The fact that you try to lie to others is understandable and expected, but when a man lies to himself then it is a dangerous psychosis and perversion.
The film did not deserve a single star.
I see a lot of people trying to justify mass murder by adding "context", previous crimes of victims etc. It does not work that way. Ustase had their revenge reasons for their crimes, hitler had them too. It was still a crime. When you look ww2 movies, you don't see anything about nazi reasons, passages from my kampf etc. You just see hideoues crimes, and that is what your serb and communist fathers did, hideous crimes.
Everything else is just your BS justification. Every butcher has them.
Sorry to see their children still have a "butcher" way of looking
Just as any other regime, this one got a chance to "set aright" all the wrongs done in the past and just as any other regime it uses film art as one of the means to achieve its goals. I can't comment on the quality of the film since I never saw it, but I strongly disagree with the tendency to use this forums to ventilate one's political believes. This is about the film art, so let it be what it is and let's not press our views and believes on the others. Only one more thing: reading the comments, I get the impression that this "historical truth" is brought to screen very one-sided (just as the others before, in the last regime and the one before and before ...)
History rewritten and revisioned by clerofascist and nazi collaborators, who desperately wants to blame "communists" and Tito's partisans for awful present state in Croatia caused by right-wing thieves. From the Croatian war 91.-95., there's many of so called "patriots", but they're nothing but money-hungry hate seeders.
