I was watching the T.V. the other night as I wasn't able to sleep (maybe the heat, I don't know). There's a T.V. program here (a really good one) where they show short-films or indies and talk with the director and/or actors. It was here that I got the chance to see "Upside down" and what a great surprise I had. The kind of comedy-romance-drama-friend's story that I usually happen to hate but with an interesting twist. Based on a play (think it's called "4 Cows in NYC" or something like that) it tells the story of 4 friends living on NY and their relationships with each other, their childhood traumas and their success/failure in professional life; all of this spiced with good directing and excellent acting for almost unknown actors (or at least unknown to me). Anyway I checked the info for this movie here on IMDb and when I noticed that it didn't even have a rating I felt it was my duty to vote and comment on it. Very enjoyable and nice looks for a low-budget and almost unknown film.

I saw this film in the CHICAGO LATINO FILM FESTIVAL and it was a great surprise to me that a Latino film, and a low budget production was so well done. Actors are brilliant thanks to the sharp directing, to me the people, including the Latinos who saw the film that night and had the chance to speak with the director were very glad for watching a story not portraying minorities as the usual and so boring drug dealers and prostitutes. Navigating on the web I discovered a very vicious review about the film on the Variety, some American critic found that kind of a story not suitable for Latinos... Pity that people with pens and room to express their opinions could also be so prejudice about the stories minorities should or should not tell UPSIDE DOWN is a very good first film of a good director that I wish will keep on working
