Those Ryan Gosling fans hankering to see the Canadian actor in the only Western movie of his career thus far are in luck. The 1998 TV movie Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy is free to stream on Amazon Freevee, allowing Gosling fans to see him in an early one-of-a-kind role that flashed his precocious acting talents and led to his A-list Hollywood status.
Well-received enough to spawn a TV series from 1998 to 2000, Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy is a romantic comedic western that tracks a trio of cattle ranchers in British Columbia in the 1940s. With a wealth of TV experience from his Young Hercules days, Gosling shines with the charming magnetism he's known for today, crafting a compelling and credible cowboy character. While not a life-changing event, Nothing Too Good for a Cowboy is a must-see for Gosling diehards and completists.

Ryan Hurst has joined the ever-growing ensemble of Christopher Nolan's swords and sandals action epic, The Odyssey, which is currently in production in Morocco, and stars Matt Damon as the legendary hero Odysseus. He faces several trials and tribulations along the way, not least of which includes the Greek god of the sea, Poseidon, seeking revenge on the traveller after he blinds his son,...

The Blind Side is a biographical sports drama starring Sandra Bullock, which experienced a bit of resurgence in recent years. The film received critical acclaim and earned Bullock an Oscar win but became controversial because of some of its tropes and the complex real-life events that ensued after its release.

While the Bullock-led movie hasn’t aged well, the same cannot be said for a Denzel Washington movie from the same genre. Jason Stathamis a safe pair of fast hands when it comes to delivering the action, and audiences have been rediscovering one of his most underrated movies thanks to free streaming. Thankfully, that’s all changed, with the movie now entering the streaming charts.
Directed by Boaz Yakin, who is best known for helming Remember the Titans and writing the likes of Now You See Me and The Harder They Fall, Safe finds The Stath fighting one of his hardest battles as he faces off with the Russian mafia, the Chinese Triads, and a group of corrupt NYPD officers all at once. It’s no news to her avid fans, but to the average Netflix viewer, “Running Point” contains a surprise: Mindy Kaling loves basketball.
The producing powerhouse behind “The Office” and “The Mindy Project” and more recently “The Sex Lives of College Girls” and Netflix’s own “Never Have I Ever” takes on the power and politics of the NBA with her new series — a fascination that dates back to her childhood.
“When [my dad] emigrated here, one of the ways that he felt like he could become better attuned to American culture was to get really into professional sports,” Kaling told IndieWire ahead of the show’s premiere. “He fell in love with basketball, and we were kind of forced to watch the Boston Celtics my entire childhood, until we fell in love with it too. It was the heyday of Larry Bird, the Celtics versus the Lakers, that dynasty.”

Denzel Washington, like the iconic trailblazer Sidney Poitier, mastered movie stardom which was long denied to African-American actors in Hollywood. Mr. Poitier emerged at a pivotal time in the history of Hollywood and showed whiteness doesn’t have to define the industry’s stardom. And it was in the year the American Civil Rights Movement gained greater momentum, i.e., in 1954, Denzel Hayes Washington Jr. was born. The man not only redefined stardom for black actors but also broke many standardized Hollywood representations of black characters. Most importantly, Denzel Washington is one of the best American actors of all time. The swagger and easy charm of the actor deserves a distinguishable adjective like Washingtonian.
Born to a beautician mom and a Pentecostal preacher dad, Denzel Washington grew up in Mount Vernon, New York. After finishing high school, he enrolled at Fordham University to study journalism. But Washington developed an interest...

One of Denzel Washington's movies that is streaming on Disney+ was also one of the best sports movies ever, and the film to finish out his three-year trend. Since he started acting in feature films in 1977, Denzel Washington has cemented himself as one of the best actors of all time. The list of Denzel Washington's best movies is filled with all-time classics like Glory, Malcolm X, and Training Day. While he's mostly known for giving extremely intense and powerful performances in R-rated and mature films, Washington also has more than enough experience in lighter movies for audiences of all ages.
One of the many notable aspects of Denzel Washington's acting career is how varied his filmography is. Washington has done everything from historical biopics to war movies to action thrillers and comedies. For as many genres as Washington has branched out into, he's also dominated in each of them.

Kerry Bellessa's 2024 movie Amber Alert is a fast-paced kidnap story. The film is a remake of Bellessa's 2012 movie of the same name, which made use of a found footage style. While the primary plot elements are similar, the Amber Alert remake is able to expand on the original in a few ways, including some changes to the story. Amber Alert has received mixed to good reviews.
While the direction and interesting take on the abduction thriller genre keep the movie interesting, the real highlight of Amber Alert is the acting performances of the main characters. Amber Alert centers on two people in a ride-share who become involved in a kidnapping when they decide to follow a car fitting the description of an Amber Alert. The movie takes time to introduce the characters and make them feel real, and the two leads have great chemistry.

In the show that warned us "Don't Dead, Open Inside," there were worse things at the end of the world than "The Walking Dead" and poor signage. One of the hit show's most terrifying characters was the Whisperers' disturbing number two, and eventual leader, Beta. Like the rest of his group, Beta sneakily shuffled onto the scene in Season 9 wearing the skin of the dead and taking things a little further than most in forgetting his existence before the outbreak. Devoted to his leader Alpha (Samantha Morton) as much as his keeping his true identity secret, Beta met a grisly and well-deserved ending at the hands of Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and was a staple in delivering the scares besides the non-verbal bitey nuisances that plagued the end of the world.

Hayden Panettiere's best movies and TV shows reveal an actress who got a huge start as a child actor before becoming one of the more successful television actors of the last decade. Panettiere started out her career as a second-generation star, her mother (Lesley Vogel) was a former soap opera actress. The final scenes of Joachim Rønning’s “Young Woman and the Sea” are hard to spoil — the film is, after all, based on a true story — and yet, they still surprise. As the film’s own producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, sees it, that’s because the very same history that inspired the Daisy Ridley-starring feature has largely been forgotten. Until, of course: movie adaptation time.

One stunt in a Denzel Washington action movie nearly went horribly wrong, a stuntman reveals. Throughout his career, Washington has appeared in many celebrated roles, winning Oscars for his performances in Glory and Training Day. He continues to expand his filmography alongside well-known Hollywood talent. Unlimited in terms of range or genre, some other credits include Malcolm X, Much Ado About Nothing, Remember the Titans, American Gangster, and Fences (which he also directed). However, it has been Washingtons action thriller roles that do particularly well at the box office, as evidenced by The Equalizer franchise.

"There's definitely room for some improvement on the administrative side," Denzel Washington said in a recent interview with The Talks. He, just as much as anyone, realizes the unfortunate habits that the Hollywood machine instantly falls into whenever they get a whiff of success. Generally speaking, Washington feels, Hollywood executives can be horrendously uncreative when it comes to genres, and especially actors. "I don't think there is a system," he said. "It's a bunch of people scrambling trying to get rich. That's all it is. [...] 'Hey, if Joe Black suddenly makes us 100 million, find me 10 more Joe Blacks.' I think that's the nature of the business."
Washington then opined, with a definite note of bitterness, that 70-year-old actors are still paired with 25-year-old female love interests. Also that no major studio has yet had a Black president. Too many modern movies, he feels, are told from a very specific...

Denzel Washington is one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation, having starred in iconic films such as Malcolm X, Philadelphia, and Remember the Titans. His roles in the aforementioned films are all heroic, admirable figures, which make it easy for the audience to root for him. Therefore, audiences usually trust Washington's characters in movies. However, while he is not typically known for playing bad characters, Washington has played villains on a few occasions.
Washginton has played villains in movies like John Q., American Gangster, and The Tragedy of Macbeth. However, one specific 2001 movie showcases Washington in his greatest villain role ever, and even earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. Throughout the course of Training Day, audiences learned not to trust Denzel Washington's character at all, as he played a corrupt detective. 23 years on, this performance remains the pinnacle of Washington's villain acting career.

Boaz Yakin's Once Again (For the Very First Time) signals something of a rebirth. In it's opening moments, the protagonist falls from the heavens with bloodied clothing and lands on the doorstep of his love interest. He is a street dancer named DeRay, she's a slam poet called Naim. They express themselves and their love through their art, him with his body, she with her words. What unfolds is a story of creation and destruction, love and death, God and humanity, told through the blending of stylistically daring film scenes that put dance and poetry front and center. It is a far cry from films like Fresh, Remember The Titans and Uptown Girls, the sort of work that filmmaker Yakin became best known for. Still,...

Remember the Titans is a classic sports film based on a true story, but some of the facts, including the specifics of the injury to Gerry Bertier, are not completely accurate. Released in 2000, Remember the Titans is the inspirational tale of a football team who puts aside prejudices to play together on the field and become friends off it. In Alexandria, Virginia in 1971, T.C. Williams High School, and its football team, were integrated for the first time. Led by Coach Herman Boone (Denzel Washington), the Titans become a symbol of unity that the entire community rallies around.
Hugely celebrated, Remember the Titans is an uplifting, funny, and poignant tale about how sports and empathy can transform a small-minded town into a true community. Remember the Titans is based on real-life events, and T.C. Williams High School, Coach Boone, Coach Bill Yoast (Will Patton), their incredible football streak, and the...

Today, Denzel Washington is considered to be a certified movie star, yet some opinions may differ on when exactly the actor became so famous. Washington's career began in the 1980s, when he earned a recurring role in the medical drama, St. Elsewhere. Just a few years later, he started taking on movie roles in major projects like Glory, Malcolm X, and Training Day. Nowadays, Washington is also known for the Equalizer franchise and his upcoming historical epic, Gladiator II. However, not many people are able to pinpoint the moment when Washington became a household name.
Many different arguments could be made about when Washington became a true movie star. Some may say that Washington's first Academy Award-nominated role for 1987's Cry Freedom was the turning point for the actor. Others may cite his highest-grossing movie, American Gangster, as a particularly notable time in his career. His most memorable roles...

Denzel Washington is the ultimate guy. Wit, humor, charm, sarcasm, charisma, a composed personality, and the perfect acting skills – the 69-year-old actor possesses it all. Not only is he always gaining headlines for his chivalry and genuine behavior toward his fellow industry co-stars, but he is also famous for being calm and composed and treating his fans with love and respect.

This is why it came as a surprise when Washington was spotted and captured, losing his cool with a group of fans and paparazzi. Apparently, while gracing his presence at an event in New York City recently, the Equalizer star was seen having a frustrated exchange with some photographers and fans waiting for him. And yet, despite all this, fans are stepping up in Washington’s support.

The Coach Carter true story is what helped the sports movie classic reach its iconic status. Starring the iconic Samuel L. Jackson as real-life high school basketball coach Ken Carter, the film tells the story of how he changed the lives of the student-athletes on the basketball team at an inner-city high school in Northern California. Almost two decades after its 2005 release, the story of Ken Carter is still ranked as one of the best basketball movies ever made and the story of the Coach Carter real-life inspiration, Ken Carter, is just as inspiring.
In Coach Carter, Jackson's Ken Carter returns to his former high school, Richmond High, to become the school's basketball coach. Carter has the players sign a contract, promising to keep a strong Gpa and adhere to a Code of Conduct. They fail to honor it, so he keeps them off the court. While Coach Carter...

Denzel Washington has had many prolific roles over his long and illustrious film career. Still, the actor has also had many parts that he either missed out on out of his own volition or because the casting producers turned him down. Of course, that has not slowed him down at all, as seen in his expansive filmography and numerous award wins. Few actors are on the same level as Washington, which essentially allows him to handpick and create the projects he wants to be a part of. After starring in The Equalizer 3 in 2023, Washington will star as Macrinus in Ridley Scott's highly anticipated Gladiator II.

A middlebrow triumph-against-the-odds sports crowd-pleaser can be a beautiful thing — that is, if it doesn’t pander and lose itself in clichés, and if it has as much respect for reality as it does for getting an inspirational rise out of you. “Unstoppable,” a wrestling drama based on the life of the college champion Anthony Robles, is an honest and stirring entry in the genre, with genuine commercial potential. It has plenty of familiar tropes, but in its no-frills way it touches a nerve of authenticity. The true story it tells is nothing short of extraordinary, and that may be why the filmmakers didn’t feel the need to overhype it.
In the opening scene, we’re at the High School Nationals in Philadelphia in 2006. Anthony, a senior from Mesa, Ariz., played by the superb Jharrel Jerome (who was Chiron’s love interest in the second segment of “Moonlight” and...

Based on the story of Gertrude "Trudy" Ederle, the film follows Trudy as she becomes the first woman to swim the deceptively trecherous 21 mile-long English Channel. Starring Daisy Ridley as Trudy with Christopher Eccleston, Stephen Graham, Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Kim Bodnia, and Jeanette Hain as Young Woman and the Sea's real-life characters, the film is a solid little adaptation of an uplifting true story.

Jerry Bruckheimer is a legendary Hollywood producer who seems to have his thumb on the pulse of blockbuster films. There's a special magic that happens, however, when Bruckheimer teams up with Disney, resulting in epic adventures like Pirates of the Caribbean or heartwarming, inspirational classics like Remember the Titans. In their latest collaboration, with star and executive producer Daisy Ridley, Young Woman and the Sea captures both that sense of adventure and inspiration in the remarkable true story of Trudy Ederle.

Veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer talks to us about his latest film, Young Woman And The Sea, and the long process of getting it made.
Some movies descend into the ninth circle of development hell and never return, but Young Woman And The Sea, at least, has a happy ending. Having begun life in 2015 at Paramount Pictures, the project – about real-world swimmer Gertrude Ederle and her 1926 attempt to swim the English Channel – was put into turnaround five years later.
By 2020, the production had lost its original star, Lily James, but producer Jerry Bruckheimer doggedly continued to try to get it made, eventually striking a deal with Walt Disney Pictures. There, it was originally intended as fodder for the Mouse House’s Disney+ streaming service, yet the film director Joachim Rønning came back with was so impressive that Disney executives decided to give it a limited cinema release.
