    Bobbie Phillips shines as Chameleon

Bobbie Phillips did an amazing job as a part-human,part-sub created to battle evil. It's the stuff B movies are made of,but her interpretation raised it to an A for sure. Her strength and subtleties kept me entranced! It's great to see an attractive female in an action role that maintains intelligence and believability! I hope to see her in more of these types of roles!

    Dying harder

Oh dear! Yet another "Die Hard" clone, with lots of murky photography, running up stairwells and climbing down lift shafts. But Bobbie Phillips is a likeable and attractive lead and the upbeat ending is a welcome surprise.

Bad Acting, Bad Story, Even the Beauty of Bobbie Phillips Cannot Save This Clone of Die Hard

A group of VIPs including Henry Kubica (John Waters), a high-executive of the Corporation, is kidnapped by a gang of robbers in a building of a casino, which is protected by a state of art security system. Kam (Bobbie Phillips), the human hybrid and IBI (International Bureau of Investigation) agent, together with another IBI agent, infiltrate in the group, trying to get enough information to organize the rescue of them without jeopardizing the safety of Kubica. However, she realizes that there are much more interests for the Corporation that the safety of the persons. This movie is really a bad clone of Die Hard, having bad story and ham actors and actresses. The beauty of Bobbie Phillips is not enough to save this film. Anyway, Bobbie Phillips and the surprising end of the plot are the best this movie can offer. The parts I and III of Chamaleon are better and better. My vote is four.

Bobbie Willis... ehrr... Bruce Phillips... I mean, Bobbie Phillips saves the day

That's right, the story of this second installment in the CHAMELEON-series is a total DIE HARD-clone. I'm not saying it's a complete rip-off, since it doesn't put the emphasis on a lot of spectacular action scenes, like DIE HARD did, but more on the characters and there roles in the plot. But there are of course a lot of similarities. A hostage-situation in a big building being the main one.

The first movie was made for TV and, naturally, so was this. But the budget for CHAMELEON: DEATH MATCH must have been a lot smaller than the first installment of the series. And it shows. There aren't many sets. There are no great outdoors-shots like in the first one. The CGI shots of the building in the futuristic city are horrible and don't even match some other shots of the 'real' city. And when Kam transforms to her chameleon-like invisible state, they don't even bother to show us that more detailed transparent CGI-look of her shape, like they did in the first movie. But I'll forgive all that, even if it makes the movie look cheap.

So Kam (played by good-looking and athletic Bobbie Phillips) still works for the IBI. She's a 'sub', a genetically altered human with some 'animal advantages'. A prominent man throws a party in a big skyscraper. Terrorists crash the party and take all of them hostage. Kam is send in, together with a new partner, to take care of the situation. So, yep, it's time to DIE HARD. But this being said, it's unfair to bash this movie for only that or the low budget. The movie still is mildly entertaining and the plot does have a few twists that I didn't see coming (but then again, I did switch my brain of while watching it). They did drop the whole 'animal-eroticism'-act from the first movie, since it served no purpose to the plot this time.

The credits here on IMDb learned me that this was directed by Russel King and Graig R. Baxley. The latter one directed some recent Stephen King adaptations like STORM OF THE CENTURY, ROSE RED and KINGDOM HOSPITAL. Those were all stylishly directed. But I suspect Russel King did most of the directing of CHAMELEON: DEATH MATCH, because it certainly hasn't got that visual flair that Baxley puts into his work. It doesn't even come close.

CHAMELEON: DEATH MATCH is as good or bad as any other crime/sci-fi made-for-TV stuff. It depends on whether you like that sort of stuff or not. Actually, I'm glad they made this CHAMELEON-concept into three movies, instead of an on-going series with episodes of 45 minutes. This way, you get a little more out of it and the film-makers put a little more effort into it. But it still remains average and it isn't part of any great TV-legacy. So, if you liked the first movie, you'll probably end up liking the second one too and forgiving its flaws. If not, then just watch it for Bobbie Phillips, 'cause she still is the main attraction of this movie. And if she ain't your thing, then stay away from it.

Predator meets Diehard in a half decent picture

If anything positive should be said about "Chameleon II: Death Match" its that it IS entertaining. The cast also does a surprisingly good job of working with the B movie script. My largest complaint is that its almost a complete rip-off of classics like "Die Hard and "Predator". And Bruce Willis didn't need to be invisible to take out Hans. But however unoriginal the story is it is no worse than its predecessor its just 11 years too late...

The special effects used to make Bobbie Phillips vanish are impressive although that is basically a known element to the series. It is still impressive regardless. Also various lighting effects made this pleasurable from a tech standpoint to watch.

The formula is so used that it is painful to watch at points. The black women in charge but out of the action, the robbers who feel that they are in complete control (where do they get this idea?) and go through the process of their robbery like Hamlet making a choice, and the cliched lines make this film seem like the mother of all sequels. If it wasn't so easy to find the many parallels throughout to films I have seen before I would have no problem giving this movie higher than a 6.5 . Its unoriginality is so blatant that I am forced to hand a flat 6 to this high quality B Movie. Worth the watch if your local Video store is robbed and they leave this movie and "Water World".
