    Not bad

This movie is slightly flawed. But Tobe Hooper can direct. I loved this movie. It was better then lake placid. Mr. hooper puts in some good scares. It will make you think twice before leaning over a dock. The film is just a joyride. It's a good old fashioned monster movie. Much better then Anaconda

    Tobe Hooper tries something different.

It's the year 2000, and things haven't been going so well for Tobe Hooper. For, like, fifteen years. So when he gets a chance to do something different, with some actual money behind it (nearly $3 million, apparently), he takes a chance.

Crocodile basically tries to cross-breed Scream with Lake Placid, with decidedly mixed results. I've seen worse animals in various SyFy movies, and Tobe wisely doesn't even try to hide Croc's shortcomings, just letting him all hang out for the most part.

Nope, the main problem is with the Scream teens. Most of them are totally unlikeable, and the ones we're supposed to care about are dry white toast on legs.

However, this is better lensed than most movies of this ilk, and there's enough with, visual and verbal, to make this worth your 90 minutes, if only to see what Hooper was up to during Y2K.

It's not good, but it IS unfairly maligned

Well, it's crap, but it's entertaining crap. A lot of people judge this movie very harshly because it was directed by Tobe Hooper and I can't blame them. This isn't a good movie. It's silly, it panders to the teen crowd with awful dialogue and stupid jokes. The crocodile is laughable. Bad CGI. But there a few moments I do enjoy, some nice cinematography and overhead scenes of the lake and forest. And if you're a fan of the campy teen scare scene you'll probably enjoy the beginning at least a bit. Overall I'd say it's very middle of the road.

    Laughable.

Maybe I don't get this movie. Is it supposed to be as bad as it seems? When I watched Cabin Fever (and let's face it, Crocodile is similar with a different enemy) I thought I'd misunderstood it because there was a chance that the sheer awfulness was deliberate.

It's the usual (and annoyingly repetitive) Teenager Elimination flick (along with Cabin Fever, Wrong Turn, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Jeepers Creepers, etc, etc) and, predictably, the characters are so obnoxious and shallow that you don't care who dies next. The afore- mentioned movies have a few things in common. Firstly you need a few teenagers to hate. Secondly, the enemy (which could be anything) needs to start wiping out the teenagers. Also required are some locals who know the history behind the enemy. Sound familiar? I can't understand why movie makers still write this kind of trash.

The CGI was awful. Another comment left here explained that this movie was supposed to be rubbish and the CGI was supposed to be unrealistic. What?! Why would a movie company want to spend its money on a film with unconvincing special effects on purpose? Ludicrous. This was released in 2000 and there's no excuse for bad effects these days.

The acting was substandard too. The writers have injected a love story into the mix which, quite frankly, didn't help things along. There was a little insight to the characters but after establishing that, you still didn't care who was going to die and when.

Won't be watching this one again in a hurry - if I'd read the review in the TV guide, I wouldn't have bothered at all. It's just the same old formula with a different enemy. Doesn't matter whether it's a contagious disease, piranhas, man with chainsaw, demon, alien or crocodile - stick a selection of unconvincing teenagers into the situation and you've got movie-making at its worst.

    Way to go Tobe!

A couple of months ago, I was pre-ordering a bunch of dvds when I came across this upcoming release of a film entitled CROCODILE---I didn't know much, if anything about it, but then I found out it was directed by TOBE HOOPER and thinking to myself "This is the man responsible for one of the greatest horror flicks of all time--THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE--it can't be that bad", so I ordered it. Well, I just got it the other day, popped it in and----ENJOYED THE HELL OUT OF IT! Tobe Hooper still has what it takes to get jolt out of people. I admit, the story has pretty much been done to death, but I really think that Tobe has put his own little twist on it and breathed new, um, "life" into it. The actor's done really well for being complete unknowns--in fact, I really hated a couple of the characters, and kept rooting for the Croc to eat them! This movie actually made me jump 4 times! Which is great for me---after so many years of watching fright flick after fright flick--I've become somewhat immune to the parts that make other people jump--so it felt damn good! For that Tobe, THANK YOU! I know, the first thing people will think when they see this title on the shelf---another LAKE PLACID (which was another great film in it's own way)--but even though it has it's similarities--it's a completely different film, so bare that in mind--and go out and rent (or buy!) this movie---you're definitely in for a campy little treat.
