    Dream is alive

I saw this film in 1987, though I did not catch the name. For years it stuck in my mind and it was recently I found out the name. I found a copy and watched it. The movie is a lesson on the dreams of those who are handicapped and how they can fulfill those dreams, even when the odds, or other people, try to stop them. This film was a part of PBS' Wonderworks series, a series of educational films in the format of "After School Specials." Like many other stories by Ray Bradbury, this one takes place in the not too distant future. Teacher in Space Program exists and it is implied space travel is common. This is another feel good moment as this was filmed after the Challenger disaster that included a teacher who was in the Teacher in Space Program. This also aired a few months before "SpaceCamp." Ray Bradbury, like Arthur C. Clarke, got many things right and even the set design came close: A reporter using a selfie-stick and a GoPro type camera, a space capsule that looks similar to what replaced the Space Shuttle, and use of social media/web cameras.

Overall, a very good film in fulfilling dreams. In response to those comments that state "the movie goes to far...events that take place in the movie are too extreme...if you want to see movies the will inspire, based on fact and that are TRUE!" well, that comment is no longer applicable. Despite many handicapped youth who succeeded as SpaceCamp, Aviation Challenge, and various roles in Civil Air Patrol. Last week, a teenager officially earned the Astronaut Wings per the FAA and NASA. So it goes to show you, as the 1980s IMAX film about the Space Shuttle is correct: The dream is alive.

If you can find it, the film is worth the time to watch it. It is dated in regards to special effects and the obvious futuristic 80's design, but if you enjoy Ray Bradbury's works, you will enjoy this film.

    Touching, but....

This is a very good 1 hour "After School Special", but I have one problem with it. It is obvious that the purpose of this movie is to inspire children with physical disabilities and to motivate them! This is good, however the movie goes too far! I believe that everyone has a purpose in life and we all have the ability to achieve, but the events that take place in this movie are too extreme! Although I really like this movie, and it brings tears to my eyes, it is fiction! If you want to see movies that will inspire you, based on fact and that are TRUE! >> Try "Miracle In Lane 2", "My Dog Skip" or "Mermaid".

Like I said, this is a good movie, but not a good motivational tool!
