The Young Starlets

I guess with millions of porn titles cranked out on film or video (or web cast?) over the past 40 years it is understandable how watershed entries can get lost. THE YOUNG STARLETS is still in print, courtesy of VXP, but this key hardcore film has been forgotten.

What we have here is the missing link between the Golden Age storyline porn films and the more recent Amateur era coinciding with the rise of video (which began nearly 28 years ago). Presented a bit in the fashion of the early porn documentaries, this episodic effort tells in concise vignettes the stories of how various young women entered the industry, presenting a fledgling short film featuring each one of them.

That is the basis for the "amateur" revolution that began in the early 1980s with the advent of shot-on-video production, and still dominates today when any youngster (see Charlie Sheen's latest litigious fling) can become a star in her own mind.

The parade of fresh faces (and bodies) here is consistently stimulating, probably because of their beauty and enthusiasm, not to mention the delight at not seeing the same old overworked "stars" in action. One senses it's all phony, as Clair Dia is featured and Martha Strawberry, Clair's co-star in the classic (but unsung) "What About Jane" are hardly amateurs, but these actresses generally did not achieve stardom.

Their stories and antics are a bit corny, ranging from a farm girl getting it on, to sex on the beach by a pair of exhibitionists to a strange incest loop purportedly made by a young woman and her two brothers (which is certainly the phoniest segment of all). So unusual that it is repeated with alternate takes at film's end is a girl who is infatuated with sticking vegetables and later a two-foot long dildo in her vagina. This is also a faked (through editing) staging, but has its own crazy appeal, more recently seen in the very minor cult "classic" I watched recently from the '90s titled UP TO BAT, where an ugly girl lying by a pool sticks all sorts of bottles up her vagina leading to the piece de resistance, taking in a few inches worth of a greased up (fortunately not with pine tar) Louisville Slugger.

NOTE: The Young Starlets has apparently phony credit cards listing a lengthy cast identical to that of a loops collection titled "Thirteen Blue Doors", duly recorded in IMDb. Usual practice is to determine the actual talent's stage names rather than preserve the fake "place" names.
