Imagine yourself in Athens nearly 50 years ago, in a peaceful neighborhood where the most important thing is the man's word of honor and everybody's dream is to find a legitimate way to escape of the financial and social misery! Even in our times a "good marriage" is such a way, despite the fact that in many cases people actually don't fit, especially when love is absent! Legendary actor Kostas Hatzihristos is Zikos who works in a local mini market of that time and makes strong social criticism with the best lines ever written for an actor in a comedy leading role! Of course, the central theme of the plot is Zikos' old boss who is trying to "buy" with his money the love of a pretty but poor young girl! Zikos turns everything upside-down and gets for Kostas Hatzichristos a place in the pantheon of the Greek comedian actors! A truly great performance!
This is quite simply the best comedy in the history of Greek cinema. Characters and plot are as simple as it gets. Yet Kostas Chatzichristos delivers, with the best comedic performance of Greek cinema history , with constant punchlines (every single moment) which are relatable and memorable until this very day.
To summ up :
HANDS DOWN THE BEST COMEDY GREEK CINEMA HAS EVER PRODUCED!!!

An excellent comedy for Greek speakers. Chatzichristos was known among the Greek actors for his incredible ability to improvise; sometimes to such an extent that it was hard for his colleagues to follow up, especially on stage. "Tis Kakomoiras" gave him the opportunity to unfold his talent, since it is essentially a character comedy based on the leading role of Zikos, which he assumed. Zikos is a countryman who moves to the capital and there, among others, he falls in love with a young girl who lives in the same neighborhood. There are numerous funny scenes in the movie, but what really makes it such a successful comedy is the "ability" of Zikos to twist the Greek language. He comes up with numerous new words and phrases which are absolutely hilarious. The rest of the cast performs exquisitely as well (especially Marika Nezer and Kostas Doukas). All in all a highly recommendable movie, but as mentioned above, mostly for those who can understand Greek.

Probably one of the best Greek movies ever made! The characters seen and developed in the film are so typical Greeks so it is inevitable not to see yourself in one of them, especially if you are a Greek!
The dialogues themselves even though they are very well studied and carefully selected come very naturally and seem very alive. Especially with the magnificent and all time classic acting of Costas Hajihristos and the huge support he gets by all of the other actors in making Zikos (the main character) one of the best characters presented in Greek silver screens. Every single quote, every single word that comes out of Zikos and the way he interacts with the other characters are simply remarkable and unmatched even by the best world famous comedians of our time! A movie that amuses you the first time you see it and then makes you admire it as you see it over and over again and finally you are just amazed by the enormous talent of Hajihristos and the fast paced dialogues! A masterpiece!

My wife and I have parents all born in Greece. They came to the USA in the 1960's where we were born. We learned Greek from our parents and Greek school. The reason I say this is because we are thankful that we can connect to the Greek culture. We collect Greek cinema video's and this one is by far the greatest comedies that we have ever seen, USA or Greece. We feel honored to see Kostas Hatzichristos in this performance. Since we are not as good as understanding Greek as the Greek themselves, we sometimes have a hard time understanding bits and pieces due to the super fast dialogue. What is great though is that we understand something new to us each and every time we watch this classic. It is incredible script and from what I have heard, improvised at times! An absolute gem that gets brighter and brighter each time it is watched. As Greece modernizes, my heart breaks. These legends are fading into the sunset. Who will replace them? Sadly, no one.
