    a really excellent early Holmes

I've wanted to see an episode of the Sherlock Holmes serial with Eille Norwood for years, so snatched the chance - and wasn't disappointed. He's an excellent Holmes, very expressive, and easy to lip read as well. He also looks like the original drawings which accompanied Conan Doyle's stories, which is always a plus.

Supported by Hubert Willis as a very serious Watson, and with Lionel D'Aragon as the token bad guy, the spookily moustached Count Sylvinus, with a nice twist involving a hidden compartment, a violin, and a waxwork, the tale of the Mazarin Stone is solved with ease and flair.

Hopefully more of these short films will surface as I believe all have survived: with the right accompaniment this one really is a winner.
