RUSTEM's 1997 DIARY is just that; a year in the life of a teenager (named Rustem)in Kazakhstan. I'm sure few of you out there can locate Kazakhstan on a map, much less know of its customs and sights. Discovering these alone are a rare pleasure this film affords us. The plot is simple as is pretty much everything in this likeable film. See it for the curiosity value alone. It's also an uplifting film, a rarity amongst post-Soviet era films from former Soviet republics.
