Jimmy Wang Yu versus Chang Sing has to be good and is good!

Beware there is a mislabeled DVD out there with the title "Furious Slaughter". Jimmy Wang Yu did make a movie of that title but this is not that movie. This is also not "Two Great Cavaliers" from 1978 with Angela Mao.

This movie opens with Chan Sing on horseback. He is angry to find burnt remains. He asks a gang of men "Who is your boss?" then fights them all. It seems he has the wrong guys but gets useful information.

Cut to Jimmy Wang Yu takes a bunch of noisy kids to a tea house to eat. He can pay.

Back to Chan Sing looking for his man. This time he finds him. The result is one of the best fights up until the release date of this movie. This fight has every element of what it takes to show a great fight. Chan Sing has the proper posture and stance of a real martial artist. He also has the muscles and a great toothy snarl. His moves are powerful and on target. He does ten or more moves before a cut in the action many times. There are plenty of long shots. The moves are continuously different. Weapons are added. Props are used. Sometimes he is a little too fast and his blocks are up before the stunt men strike. In this fight, the only thing better would have been instead of hot water if they had set him on fire with real flames.

The story continues with Jimmy under arrest for his involvement in the fight. He takes advantage over the officer in charge. Enter Miss Flower. The gang Chan Sing beat up reports back to her. Miss Flower plots to turn the two cavaliers against each other.

This ends in a two good guys against each other final fight. Jimmy seems to have come across this fresh plot idea when he fought Zatoichi the blind swordsman. It is an excellent plot. I do believe it was not used again until Donnie Yen's "Iron Monkey".

My copy is the "Flashlegs" wide screen version. Fans know where to obtain a copy.

I rate this as one of the top martial arts movies of 1973. I give it my highest recommendation as mandatory viewing for fans of the genre.
