In 1984 porn was in the earliest phase of shifting to homevideo, and this feature with a good director and okay cast prematurely signaled crap to come. It's pointless, boring and poorly made.
Title premise centers on Barbara (Desiree Lane) as an exhibitionist and risk-taker. Picture starts off with zero story, just three sex scenes of Barbara versus her husband Edgar (Paul Thomas), showing off as swingers. So Barbara has lesbian sex with Lynn Ray (playing a character named Vanessa, but I'll return to that phony action later) and lots of friends watching and gawking. When PT has a threesome with Rene Summers and Marc Wallice, the onlookers switch their attention to them instead.
Not to be outdone, Desiree and Lynn are joined by Lisa Lake, and then director Mailer goes to split-screen mode as each trio deliver a d.p., the gals using a couple of strap-on dildos to perform the feat.
At this point, it's clear that a sell-out to fans of gonzo all-sex has occurred, but fans who profess to revere the Golden Age of vintage Adult Cinema should be disappointed.
Mailer shifts gears, and the rest of the movie is mechanical flashbacks all about swinging. Desiree regales Lynn with her tales of swinging, first with a couple (Tom Byron and Karen Summer) who are way ahead of her and PT, and we see various concatenations of the four players when Barbara invites "the Mitchells" to stay over with them.
Then Barbara remembers another Swinger couple (Greg Derek and Athena Star) and we watch her in flashback watching that couple make love. Then there's an orgy with that foursome in a daisy chain on the floor, with a fifth member added -whoa! It's Lynn Ray!
Yes, this actress is simultaneously sitting patiently listening to her pal Desiree drone on with her endless stories of swinging, yet she is also the sex worker tossed randomly into the orgy she's hearing about. It makes no sense and is disconcerting as hell, but merely puts an exclamation point on the movie lapsing into all-sex territory, everything else be damned.
