What an utter piece of crap. This pilot for a mini-series has not only has the highly unprobable scenario of grandfather, father and daughter as cops all at the same time and in the same department, but also the daughter and father working on the same task force together. The acting is wooden, the script unplausible. The whole thing is just a great waste of time.
A dysfunctional Dallas police family with a blonde bimbo daughter (who just happens to be a police officer ... unknown to her father !!!!!) chase a Dirty Harry style nutcase around a merry-go-round of circumstances each more unbelievable than the last. I found myself cheering for the perp. when he almost murdered the blonde. If the murder had taken place 3 generations previously we wouldn't have had to watch this rubbish.

i really, really loved this movie. everything about it was perfect: the plot, the cast, etc. it is truly a sitting on the edge of your seat, biting you nails kind of thriller! i have never seen a movie before in which i literally could not stop watching the movie. it was that good. it was suspense mixed with tragedy and romance. I've read some of the negative user comments and i think those people just don't like suspense movies. it includes cheating, lies, death, and heartbreak. my kind of movie! very organized film. i recommend anyone who likes crime and suspense to definitely check this movie out. I'm actually going online now to try to buy it. i hope everyone else enjoys it as much as i did.
I was bolted to my seat throughout the riveting and emotional tour de force called "To Serve and Protect." Every actor and actress in this thing amazed me with their ability to draw me into the film, but I think the real high point here is a scene between one of the lead actresses and the sadly uncredited "Guy on bike." When he passes her on that bridge, and their eyes meet, all of the intensity and suspense that this movie has to offer comes to a head just before "Guy on bike" utters the words that define relief itself, "How's it goin'?" Absolutely fantastic stuff.
The dramatic Craig T. Nelson makes another wonderful dramatic lead character. This Mini-Series is one of the best I have ever seen. Nelson proves he can do comedy with "Coach" and Drama with "To Serve and Protect". Outstanding support characters and wonderful writing makes it a not-to-miss mini-series.
