Much as I've long admired Adult pioneer Gloria Leonard, I found it exceedingly difficult to sit through this Vivid Video vehicle for Savannah that she directed.
It's the story of a failed marriage, telegraphed in the opening sex scene, where hubby Woody Long demonstrates he's suffering from premature ejaculation, unable and unwilling to satisfy wife Savannah's need to have an orgasm himself. Leonard intentionally omits a cum shot in this scene and later in the movie as well, confounding porn fans, especially since Vivid's safe-sex condom policy means there's no creampie either when Woody quickly and invisibly cums.
Savannah has to use a vibrator instead and her frequent voice-overs are downbeat "Woe is me!" nonsense.
She finds a girl's phone number written in a matchbook Woody has handy for cigarette-smoking after sex, setting up a lousy climax to the film -the girl is P. J. Sparxx. Woody has two sex scenes with P. J., one another "unfinished" one where she gets mad at him, and the next more conventional. The woodman also has sex with Nikki Sinn.
Terrible script, not believable for a minute, has Savannah looking completely out of place working as a volunteer at a homeless shelter (because hubby Woody forbids her getting a normal -paying -job).
At the shelter there's a ridiculous inside-joke scene featuring Holly Ryder oddly cast as a crazy old bag lady. That's a pretty strange (and pointless) role for a 24-year-old starlet who appeared in over 50 movies released in 1991.
This shelter contains a collection of porn directors: Gerard Damiano, Henri Pachard and Bobby Hollander, plus Al Goldstein, Ron Jeremy and E. Z. Ryder -an utterly pointless stunt.
Downbeat all the way, "Vow of Passion" ends with a strident feminist statement by Savannah as she embarks on a "I gotta be me" new life.
