    The Guitry Touch

Another sweet little confection of Sacha Guitry, the far-too-well-kept secret of French cinema. This one, for the most part, is simply him narrating all the stories and dramas and idiosyncrasies of the quaintest of quaint French villages, as well as its suicidal Baron (who he also plays), so it can sometimes feel more like an audio-book than a movie.

Like nearly all of Guitry's films, it is whimsical and self-indulgent to a fault, but also delightful, romantic and unlike those of anyone else. Not his very best but continually enjoyable the whole way through, like the best kind of shaggy dog stories.

    6½/10.

A certain feeling and that definitive smile, Guitry's trademark !

Quoting the only other comment, I for sure agree with that certain feeling about Guitry's movies...

and just would add and mention that this one also has that definitive smile in it,

the trademark of that great director and actor who was Sacha Guitry.

May be slightly too talky, but it's an effective pleasure,

French subtle language is always so well expressed,

that all along it's keeps you smiling...

None of his best work, but nevertheless, even not though,

what could be considered as a minor Guitry's movie,

is quiet above most directors average...

    a small minor treasure !
