Not Bad abut Not Good Either

This picture was release in 1980 starring Lisa Hartman as Julie. This picture had a little bit of everything in from Comedy, adventure and romance The lush island paradise of Hawaii is the setting for this romantic/comic adventure of four free-spirited teens whose chance encounter at the airport leads to love and lunacy in the tropics. Julie and her boyfriend go to the airport looking to take advantage of tourist. However, things go wrong when Julie falls for a young man from the states that turn her Island Romance upside down. This wasn't a bad movie due to the fact that most of it was shot from the Islands of Hawaii. I bought this movie because of Lisa Hartman but I was disappointed in her acting. However, I do give this movie 5 weasel stars because of the scenery alone.

    A real obscurity

When I logged onto IMDb to write a review of this movie, I was confident that I would be the first to review this obscurity, so imagine my surprise when I saw two other people had earlier written user comments. They looked kindly on this movie, but I can't. The Hawaiian scenery is indeed gorgeous, but the nice look of everything can't save this movie. The story is slow, and for the longest time doesn't seem to know where it's going. The actors try, but with such lame material they aren't able to give performances that have conviction. And the England Dan and John Ford Coley songs are really bland and all sound the same. If you do decide to watch the movie despite my warnings, a word of caution: The videocasette release of the movie (at least the original one in the mid 1980s under the movie's original title) for some reason uses a print that awkwardly edits out nudity.

Loved it when I was a kid.

A cornball movie. Obviously someone was trying to find a vehicle for Robert Hegyes post Kotter. The appeal of this film was simple. First, Lisa Hartman looked great in it. As a sixteen year old, I of course loved the scene on the beach where she removed her top, not that you could see much. The scenery of Maui was fantastic, and the songs were by England Dan and John Ford Coley, which were good tunes if you like that stuff. The producers made maximum use of the town of Lahaina, as well as many of the best spots in Maui. Jack Lemmon's son Chris wasn't too believable as a bad guy, but then who would believe much of this film about teens who rob hotel rooms while the occupants are down at the pool. Simple teen fun. All in all, it is just another teen flick with some silly situations and action, punctuated by Lisa Hartman looking good, and good use of the locale.
