    Laboured farce

The local cathedral will be condemned unless funds are raised for repair works.Robertson Hare is charged with the task of raining this money. He is sent to see wealthy financier Alfred Drayton.Instead of making a donation,Drayton says he can double their money in a day. What turns out to be is the purchase of smuggled goods and selling them on for a profit. However their plans do not go well and as a result they have to sell them at an auction at the Church fête.The police are called as they are selling alcohol. However they manage to evade them and the money needed by the church is finally raised.Despite the talents of those involved this is a rather unfunny farce, due principally to the script. There is barely one laugh out loud moment.Edie Martin, the old lady from the Ladykillers,is a truculent barmaid!
