One of the best 1978 Pink Panther cartoons

The 1978 set of Pink Panther cartoons are very hit and miss, with Sprinkle Me Pink being the best one but that year three of the weakest cartoons were seen with Pinkologist, Cat and the Pinkstalk and Yankee Doodle Pink. Luckily although some of the backgrounds are very limited and scrappy, the interiors in the mansion are also very little different from house interiors in other Pink Panther cartoons, and the rather odd and abrupt ending was the weakest part of the cartoon Pink Press is by far one of the best of the 1978 cartoons.

Most of the animation is nice and colourful though without being too gaudy, Pinky blends quite well instead of being garishly designed like he sometimes could be in the later Pink Panther cartoons. The music score for Pink Press while ever so slightly repetitively thematically is still one of the better ones in the 1978 Pink Panther cartoons, it has energy without overdoing it and the style of it actually fits this time. The pacing is fine, not too rushed and not draggy while the gags are some of the funniest of the 1978 Pink Panther cartoons, while slightly predictable the gag with the hole in the floor and the crocodiles is priceless. Pinky is cool and likable and has great comic timing without saying a single word. The guard was amusing but I did feel a little sorry for him sometimes and while the dog was a little underused it is a long way from wasted.

Overall, a good cartoon and one of the best of the 1978 set. 8/10 Bethany Cox

    Meet the Pink Press.

The Pink Panther is one persistent reporter as he tries to interview a millionaire, but his attendant keeps giving him the boot. So, the panther acts in his sly self and tries to outsmart the man in order to keep the scoop on the millionaire.

There's some unpredictable moments here as you are left wondering whether the panther would succeed in getting his story, and the back and forth exchanges between the panther and the attendant are pretty funny.

Still, the ending leaves people hanging, as with much of the Pink Panther cartoons of the 1970s.
