    Dubious proposition for a plot

Some unexplained plot elements prevent me from giving this Allan Lane Republic Picture a higher rating. It certainly has enough action and gunplay to satisfy any western fan.

Rocky Lane is an insurance investigator instead of a federal marshal in Covered Wagon Raid. A number of settlers who are buying sections of the local Ponderosa to settle on have been robbed and in some cases killed. Lane in fact enters the film trying to prevent such a thing happening to prospective settler Rex Lease and his little daughter Sherry Jackson.

Trying to put this small controlled land rush are owner Byron Barr and his foreman Eddy Waller. What's never been made clear is why the outlaws want to stop settlement. The idea that settlers will automatically bring law and order is a dubious proposition at best.

It all starts to unravel when Lane catches on that Pierce Lyden is part of the gang. Perennial western heavy Dick Curtis has to silence him and that murder is what eventually does in the gang and the guy giving the order to Curtis and the rest.

Covered Wagon Raid could have been better.
