          The war lords

Adémai was a character which was created for actor Noel-Noel:there were no less than four movies (plus a short) featuring this simpleton ,who has never got a clue wherever he may be .

Without a time machine,he winds up in the Middle Ages at the end of the Hundred years war:Joan Of Arc has just released Orléans (1429)but the English are still here to stay .

The fortress of Châteauneuf is held by Lord Pickwickdam (Michel Simon);outside the thick walls of the castle, there's a big celebration :four weddings (including Adhemai and his bride Etiennette)and the peasants are feasting, with plenty of wine and songs (romantic ones by Tino Rossi cast as a troubadour, but also saucy ones);sadly the English lord's soldiers spoil the party:their master wants the brides to come to his mansion and to exert his Droit Du Seigneur. And Adhemai's bride is the chosen one .Fortunately ,the place is taken over by the French :the stupid lump falls from the frying pan into the fire for TWO French covet the girl now:the handsome knight of Beauregard and the rough constable of Châteauneuf.

And it's only the beginning of far-fetched adventures ,often very funny:Ademai is almost hanged, drowned ,he is questioned by the English about Joan of Arc's plans (but he is the only French who has never heard of her),forced to fight a duel ,I could go on....

Michel Simon is a larger-than -life lord Pickwickdam, who speaks English with a French accent ,and French with a fake English accent;forget history and you have a little comedy which predates Sacha Guitry's historical extravagances.
