    Heart touching....

This movie was extremely heart touching & you will need a box of tissues to watch it. I myself lost my father almost a year ago to cancer & it really touched my heart in so many ways with the story line & the emotions everyone felt. I was blessed with the special gift of being with my daddy when he died & sadly it was in my arms that he did. I would highly recommend this movie to everyone just to let them know that if they have experienced this situation, that they are not alone & it is okay to feel these emotions & thoughts. It brought back a lot of feelings & emotions for myself & can very well understand the heartache & feeling of emptiness it leaves you. Take a moment after watching the movie to feel grateful for what you have in life & remember it can happen to you or someone you know. Take into consideration that life is short & enjoy it day by day. If you happen to know someone who is terminally ill with this or any other kind of disease, make time for them & offer your support along with your sympathy & they will accept it with open arms. You will be surprised on how they respond.

    A great movie

When I saw that a made for TV movie was on I decided to tape it. Little did I know that this movie would mean so much to me and make me think so much about my life and how precious it is. It was a fantastic movie and taught me a lot about courage and how to deal with tough situations. I loved it!

If you liked the movie, you'll LOVE the book

I thought this movie was really good for a made-for-TV special. Some of the acting came off a little cheesy, but I think that's to be expected.

It seems that there are a lot of movies out there, mostly movies made for television, that try and deal with young love and some sort of tragedy. It's become so common that they often don't touch our hearts anymore, because they just follow a formulaic pattern. Let me assure you that this is NOT the case with this movie.

The movie is based on Lurlene McDaniel's book, Don't Die, My Love, and I had to take off one star for the sheer fact that the movie doesn't do the book justice. There were some key scenes that I really think should have been included in the film, especially the final part of the book, which is probably the most touching thing I have ever read (but I won't spoil it!). So, all in all, this is a significantly above par movie, but if you liked it, you HAVE to read the book!

    Great Movie Beautiful Actors

Movie was a sad but great story of its time for Lifetime. The players in the movie contributed well with their abilities. The ending was sad but the sadness was near the ending with a life honoring moment. I enjoyed it even 8+ years after production. It is my wish that everyone who has not as of yet seen this movie try ti make time to see it. I truly believe it will not be a waste of time.

Genna said it all in her short description:

    Julie Ellis and Luke Muldenhower are high schoolers in love. They're lives are going great! Luke is going to get a scholar for football and Julie is an honors student. Suddenly, they're perfect world comes Based on the book "Don't Die, My Love" By Lurlene McDaniel. Summary written by Genna Reeves {g_reeves02@YAHOO.COM}

From a prolific novelist of teen books

Even though this apparently is not a movie produced by Lifetime, "A Champion's Fight" has Lifetime written all over it. It's based on a Lurlene McDaniel story of two teenagers in love, but the young man has cancer. McDaniel has written many novels for teens, often with a spiritual theme.

I can really see this film appealing to a young crowd, as it was intended. It's very sports-oriented - the boy, Luke, is the star quarterback at the high school. Beth Broderick plays the girl's mom, and she's always good, conveying an attorney's sophistication and later, compassion and support. Adrienne Barbeau is Luke's mom.

The story is poignant and also predictable. There really isn't anything exceptional about it, except Barbeau's problems with her employer.

Given all that, I cried like a baby and hated myself.

Patricia: Julie, nobody can tell you that they know what you're going through, but I remember how I felt when my mother died. I was only 14 years old and there was really nobody to share it with. There were days when I thought I would just up and die.

      Julie: That's how I feel.

Patricia: I know... but sooner or later you're going to have to go on with your life. That's what Luke would have wanted. He would want you to be happy.

Julie: How can I be happy without him?

Patricia: Because some day when you least expect it, you're going to fall in love again.

Julie: I'll never love anyone the way that I loved Luke.

Patricia: Maybe, maybe not but you're going to have to try because life is full of risks--just like Luke's surgery.
