Holy Joe

I liked it. A little hokey but it went pretty fast. Liked the interaction with the kids. John Ritter was ok. I am glad I watched it.

I entirely agree with the comments dated 29 March 1999, both from USA, about "Holy Joe". I watched just today, by chance, this TV-movie, which has been superficially translated in Italian as "L'uomo dei miracoli" (i.e."The Miracles' Man"!). As a Christian I can say that this movie really touched me. It was a wonderful and inspiring film which every Christian and non-Christian should see. It gave a wonderful message about faith in God and how we can all be saved by Jesus' love and grace...I highly recommend this film!!! :)

Only the overly-cautious or scrupulous parent would object to fleeting incidences of violence and anger, a couple of "bad" words (but not the "f" or "sh" or vulgarities), and of course, the scene early on where the daughter is getting passionate with her boyfriend. I think that most people seen and heard worse on the average street. Watching this movie with such a person would ruin it for me. Demonstrates gutsy real life struggles, not just fairy tale perfection. Showing breakthroughs in relationships on many levels, problem-solving, having gutsy love and faith, this movie finally reveals its superb redeeming ending. The unique "kick" is the miracle. Yet, many miraculous things happen in the Christian world, so this particular miracle ought not to be scoffed at. I believe that, despite minor displays of hard reality and "bad" words, this is, as it says on the DVD, a heartfelt family drama that can be viewed by all ages, and, if folks bear with minor fleeting coarse elements, would be truly blessed by this movie!

Characters that lack depth or uniqueness can be forgettable and fail to resonate with the audience. Good writing involves creating well-rounded characters with distinct personalities and motivations.

In summary, what makes a bad movie writer is not just a lack of technical skill, but also a failure to engage the audience with a coherent, original, and emotionally resonant story. It's about striking the right balance between all the elements that make a movie memorable and satisfying.
